All this talk has happened in most motor sports.. NHRA - Big guns run 1000' Nascar - restrictor plates.. Eventually somethings gonna give.. Edit: Look on the bright side - theres always tractor pulls!! LOL big guns have picked up speed and et since changing to 1000' ask earnhart, kesolowski and edwards about restrictor plate racing. never seen a hookup chain break but i did see MASSIVE engine failure in tractors, parts go a long way just saying....................... lol

Not so sure we should be comparing ourselves to 8000 hp nitro cars though...lol.

I'm pretty sure the track + shut-down formula goes something like this:
1/4 mile racing requires 3300 feet of track surface.
1000 foot racing requires 2500 feet of track surface.
1/8 mile racing requires 1650 feet of track surface.
Someone must know the exact length of the local tracks, now maybe everything is fine, but lets first see where the measurements point.

Geez - I know now how NASCAR's Mike Helton felt after he told the drivers to "Have at it boys"............
I'm getting lots of emails complaining about the bickering, warning me about "Who might see this?" or being positively savage about either having to run 1/8 mile or they're mad at the track owners or the ADRA or another racer. They're not members but claim they either don't know how to join or don't want to. Note: I will post positive comments from non-members but that's it.
Am I going to do anything? - NO!! You all are going to have to work all this out among yourselves. Put the giant egos aside and work it out for God's sake. If I'm not mistaken this whole thread started simply as a "What if..." and all of a sudden people think ALL the tracks are going to change to 1/8 mile?
As far as the length of track goes I don't give a f**k if it's only a hundred yards - I JUST WANT TO RACE!!! I don't care what the ET breaks are either - when I put something together that's quicker than a 19 second VW I will race whatever class the car fits and NOT complain.
I seriously hope that everyone that said they would quit if we went to 1/8 mile keeps their word - I could really use the $20 for every Race Car for sale ad I get LOL.

I'm in full agreement Don, I'll race 10'. I think there is one track in question and no matter 1/8, 1000' or 1/4 I love to go to the Island and I will be there.

Hmmmm...whats the track record speed at RWP?? According to the website its 288mph by Aggie Hendricks and I was probably there (and thats probably when the traps were 66' longer) and she didnt end up in the stock car track and I know Billy Horton went over 175mph on a bike and stopped with a single piston caliper on a 8" disc so if you cant get stopped you need to upgrade your equipment. Just sayin......

I agree with this guy just because we had a few crashes this past year i think everyone is looking at this the wrong way. a 14 sec. car can crash just as fast as a 6 sec. car it doesnt matter how long the track is theres still going to be crashes.just hope that everyone is still alive at the end of it. all every one needs to do is make sure there ride is safe .and do there thing and have fun doing it thats my two cents i know it doesnt mean s--t.

actually aggie went 266 mph with a jet car. yes 4 wheel disc brakes but no trouble stopping at all. in fact she turned off on the second last return lane. there was no "jet reverser" on the cars engine either. the speed trap was and still is the same length 66' and yes wayne i was there !!
as far as crashes at rwp lets see;
dave darrach: into stock car track. throttle stuck switched off fan instead of engine
paul boudreau: found brake caliper retiner pin at finish line, fell out
johnny zegray: to much finish line brake lost control
jim morrison: same as zegray but broke hiem joint in tie rod end
dumb girl in lightning truck: took truck without consent and under the influence
yes this is just a few of them but the trend is similar for them all. mostly all crashes are either driver error or parts breakage. hard to prepare for either of those.

People,people,people....... NO TRACK will be changing to 1/8 mile for the 2012 racing season, this thread is exactly as stated earlier " WHAT IF ", so with that being said sit down take a big breath, unbunch your panties to release the strain and RELAX for christ sakes, this actually ties into another thread which is " IMPORTANCE OF TECH " 1/4 mile or 1/8 mile racing still has the same dangers involved, ie; so we go to 1/8 mile racing a 700 hp S/P car launches and the throttle sticks, guy behind the wheel sh*ts his pants and white knuckles it, now u have all that shut down area, what are you going to do chase him on foot to see if you can bring him out of his state of fright, no you will be waiting like the rest of us to see what he will hit or were he will end up, JUST THAT SIMPLE.
It has been said many a time already, now I will state it again with another little twist, Make sure your race vehicle is safe to run the ET and MPH that it will run , now the twist, use all your time that you like to go on here and whine about the topic and go to the garage and MAKE YOUR CARS SAFE. then start a new topic with pics and such on how you improved your cars cage, braking system, pics of the new belts and protective clothing that you bought and of course lets not forget the pic of the new helmet you bought to replace the old one that you have been using for the last 20 yrs. I think that would be a great way to spend the winter , watching all the racers make improvements towards safety. You can do it now this winter on your own or you can do it after you go through tech at your local track this coming race season lol. ;D ;D
Also I'm with Chris on this, if you are going to do comparissions at least compare apples to apples and not an orange to an apple, they really are different in so many ways lol.
