Maybe we could suggest to the Sprint cup to ask the Nascar tracks to shorten their straight aways. I'm not a fan of 1/8 mile racing. I'm one of those "Junkies"

As was stated in an earlier post, none of the tracks have had any upgrades for years. With the extra emphasis on tech this year in regards to vehicle safety maybe next we should look at the tracks. What can each track safely handle for speed? If need be for vehicles over 150 mph run 1 chute, over 165 mph run 2 chutes. If still a concern then regulate that particular track to 1/8 mile or 1000 feet. Let the racers decide where/what they would like to run instead of regulating 1/8 at all tracks and losing cars the sport can't afford. I'm sure a lot will run both.

I myself have run in the 6's and over 200.............. and had no problem stopping ,but hell i only open my eyes after the run was over....lol 1/8 may work on the faster cars {7 seconds or faster} but i say let the others be............. just my two cents worth

So, what's next ? 1/16th mile for the junior dragsters? Have only been in this sport for 8 years, but I have yet to hear of a racer that has wanted to go a slower mph down the track. For the most part, people are smart enough to know their limit and increase their stopping power at the same time.Have there been incidents at tracks?...of course there has.(the ones I remember have been mostly "veteran" racers)Mechanical parts fail,no matter how careful you are or how much money you have invested in your ride. It's something that may and will happen in motorsports. The fact is,it's human nature to go faster, but you have to take RISK out of the equation as best you can, all you can do is adhere to safety regulations and take advice from tech inspections, if your still worried about going 1/4 mile, then maybe it's time to start playing an indoor sport like tiddlywinks..........

Personally - I prefer 1/4 mile racing -but I think 1000 ft. is a good comprimise .
I could finally put that 9.?? on my window .

Since Miramichi is my home track, I would like to say that there is a ton of room to slow down a 160 mph dragster at that track without a chute. Now as far as the 200 mph heavier cars, that is not the case. I would have to think that not every racetrack out there has the shutdown required to stop a car without deploying the parachute at the higher speeds. And no track is designed to have the shutdown to safely stop a car that has had complete brake failure. That being said, why not incorporate it into the rules to make it a requirement to pull the chute over a predetermined mph instead of shortening the track.
In my opinion (and I haven't raced at all the tracks), the one track that could improve safety by going 1/8 mile would be PEI. Not only is the shutdown short (although I have heard some say they have an easier time stopping there because it is uphill), but the narrow lanes with the grass median wouldn't be as big a concern only racing to the 1/8 mile. I am sure I will hear from Mario on this one though...lol.
Of the incidents that happened at Miramichi, one was mechanical failure which couldn't have been avoided, and the other one happened before the 1/8 mile timers anyway. Changing things to 1/8 mile racing won't eliminate the possibility of things going wrong on the racetrack even though you take away the big speeds. I would say replace those brake pads, check your lines, keep the nuts and bolts tight and if you think the tracks are getting too short pull that parachute lever every single time you run. After all, it takes all of two minutes to pack a parachute once you have done it a few times...

At the Shakedown At E-Town they ran the small tire classes to the 1/8mile. The slower classes except for pro mod ran to the 1/4. It was the most exciting racing I have ever seen. What if we tried some quick 8 or 16 races to the 1/8 mile, mixed in with a regular weekend and see how it goes.

Lots of the infamous line "that's the way it has always been!!!!!" and "I don't want to change!!!!" ;D ;D ;D 1000 feet may have potential as a stepping stone to going 1/8 mile. 330 more feet of stopping room and less MPH. Have heard the arguement that the cars will end up going the same mph at the 1/8, takes a major HP increase to gain that 30 mph before the 1/8. HP is cheap but not sure it is that cheap. The fast cars being discussed also do not gain that much from a gear change. Lot of people I talk are just waiting for the "big one!!" to happen somewhere. Couple of hints over the last couple of years as to how bad it can be but thankfully those people walked away with out major injury. Internet poll, hummmm don't think so. Too many minus's to that. "Closed doors" conspiracy theories!!!! Greg you live what 15 minutes max from where the meeting was. Enough interest to blast the people involved but not enough to show up at the meeting and bring up the subject. Typical non-racer internet BS. Well ,well,,my old buddy mario, its kinda strange that you mentioned me specifically with all the other posts ,, I thought we were on here to voice an opinion but once again you have proven that if you dont get your way which you stated that if it took you a couple years you wouldnt stop till you got your way,you again act like a kid taking a temper tantrum and have to take it out on someone and belittle them on this board ,so really what good would attending a meeting do ,ask Billy Shepard about that one!! I am curious though,if your plan is just for RWP or do you plan on taking over and screwing up all the maritime tracks. You are talking safety and in the event of the worst, well you probably wouldnt remember as you probably werent there but both accidents I saw at rwp were cars getting in the center grass and flipping ,no not amateurs unless you call Alyn Armstrong an amateur ,this was in the first 660ft ,so are you going to address that issue before something happens mr mario,as for the non racer crap mario looks like that is the only comeback you got so lets not bore people with that trash talk again ,after all I was the one that approached you last year at miramichi to bury the hatchett not you so I guess we know who the bigger more mature person is ,you didnt seem to have much to say then ,seems to me its you doing the internet trash talk ,as usual.

Funny how everyone misses the obvious.....if you don't feel safe at the speeds your race vehicle travels at the local tracks then a.) slow your vehicle down or b.) travel and race somewhere else where you feel safer or c.) stay the hell home
It RACING, its dangerous, rules and common sense make it as safe as possible, we all accept the risk when the green hits and sooner or later crap happens. Going 1/8 mile will not fix that. If you're afraid of the speed, slow down, run a different class, add a chute.
