Things got right quiet and this topic does come up fairly often in my circles. Can't say there is any agreement in my circles but it does get discussed. ;D ;D ;D We have to face the fact that the cars are getting quicker by leaps and bounds, HP has never been as cheap as it is now and it will keep getting cheaper. New parts coming out every day and the out of date parts filter down to the bracket ranks. The tracks we race on (with the exception of Cape Bretons "current" facility) seem to get shorter for those quick cars every year as they get faster. Now I will admit Raceway Park has possibly the worst setup with a fence and buildings after the end of the track but MDP and Greenfield are no treat either if you cannot get stopped. Going to 1/8 mile instantly makes all the tracks 660 feet longer and cars are going 30ish MPH less when they try to slow down. Lot more shutdown with less speed to get rid of. Anyone who has raced at Raceway Park fairly often has gotten at least a taste of 1/8 mile racing on Sat gamblers races. Personally I enjoy it, still get to play at the finish line. ;D ;D ;D Will take a few years to make any headway on this but I am a patient man and willing to grind away at the idea. Thoughts anyone? Yea or nay? ??

do what the pro's do 1000 ft. That's a reasonable option too....Won't most guy's change up the rear gears to compensate for lost MPH in the 1/8th mile???....More stopping room but I would think we would still see some big MPH's...

I have no interest in 1/8 mile but i've only ever run 1/4 so I really have no experience with the 1/8th either

Speed should definitely be a factor. Most of those insane small tire and Outlaw cars down south run ONLY 1/8 mile. Personally I LOVE it especially with a slow car because I don't gain a lot in that last 660 feet. I think it should be safer, better for the fans because they see both ends of the track easier, racers get in more runs per hour and it cuts down on the sandbaggers' catch-up zone. If it comes down to a track length or condition problem for the really fast cars I don't think there is any alternative. Every year the cars get quicker but the tracks don't get any longer or smoother. I think it's only a matter of time....

Somewhat likely that we'll be racing 1/8 mile in NL in 2012. There is a new facility being built about 25 minutes from St. John's and if completed will mean the end of Clarenville. It will be 1/8 mile. If you look at he tracks listed in either NHRA or IHRA a little over 50% are 1/8 mile. While I am not thrilled by the prospect I would not give up racing over it. 1/8 mile is better for spectators and puts more pressure on drivers to hit the tree. Could be worse with no track at all. No question it is somewhat safer.

Easy way to figure it out ,VOTE ,then there is no way anyone can say it was changed behind closed doors if the change wasnt wanted by the majority not just a select few, so here we are time to voice your opinion now not after its too late so there are no more "surprises" , make my vote NO for 1/8 mile.
