IMO what needs restructuring the most is the Street/Sportsman class. Right now it's all but dead - just look at how few cars are showing up for first round. Worst of all is you don't even need all your fingers to count the names that are on the ADRA Points sheet. There's also a dozen or more brand new cars that are too fast for the current 13.50 cutoff.

Not sure I want to see box go all the way back to 12 or 13.49. Means a long wait for a fast car. Combine it with an open top light or crosstalk and yes lets go for it. ( I can hear John M cheering in the background ;D ;D ;D) I am still in favor of overlap between S/P and Pro, would like to see Pro go to a 10.00 break and S/P stay at 11.49. Have been bringing it up at the ADRA AGM's for a couple years with no success so far. My intial thought was to even up the size of the fields, S/P fields are getting bigger every race but is that a real problem??? The side effect for the tracks is more income as the no-box racers who can make the break double enter. Or as we have already seen some of the box racers take the box out and double enter. Are we ready to see one racer win S/P and Pro points in the same year? ??

My opinion would be to have the class breaks like this...
S/Pro 10.99 & quicker w/box allowed
Pro 11.00 - 13.49 w/no box allowed
Sportsman - 13.50 and slower
Sport compact (fwd) -Any ET
Also gamblers races for next year should stay box/no box but the box cars shouldn't be allow to enter into the no box class. but the no box cars can enter the box class. Also bikes/sleds should have their own gamblers race. The incident in PEI this year where the biker lost control at top-end and slid across into the other lane, could of been very tragic if they would have been racing against a slower car and could have been ran over.

Super/Pro is a huge class now, Pro is a decent size and Sportsman is very low on numbers so how about a MAJOR readjustment?
1. Quick 32(or 16 depending on car count) 2. S/Pro(11.99 & faster) - box 3. Pro/Sportsman(12.00 & slower) - no box 4. Sport/Compact - any ET

Crosstalk for Box racing is an excellent idea, there are a lot of guys who are building faster and faster cars each year, some are having to abuse their gear by staying on the converter longer, this would help them save some equipment. I'm game for that.

This topic was brought up last year at the track owners meeting. From what I understand, they expressed concerns over the speed of the sand baggers hitting the brakes before the finish line. They felt that it is dangerous enough at 11.50 and that 11.00 would be worse. Or maybe it was because 10.99 is the next big step in safety requirements and some people would be pushing the limits of safety by dialing 11.00 when they can actually go faster.
So, we need to come up with a solution to this issue before the track owners will agree to make any changes.
Would setting the Et break at 10.50 in pro discourage any ill equipped 10.99 and faster cars from dialing 11.00 and sand bagging ?
We will still have sand baggers at 10.50 but at least the safety requirments for a 10.49 car is the same as 10.50 cars.

In general people should think of there own safety and not worrying about if there car is gonna pass tech or not. If you think your car is gonna be below the Et times for the proper safety equip well you should have the car prepared before you hit the track and follow the IHRA rules that are posted on this site. Even if it doesnt run the ET atleast you know if something does happen you will be safe. A car can roll a few times even at 60mph so why wouldnt you want to make sure that if this does occur you have the proper cage and safety quip on. This year teching of vehicles at every track seem to be a little over looked, from my experience this year at every track i seen quite a few vehicles running high ETs without proper roll bars, fire suits, helmets etc. This is something i believed should be stepped up quite a bit for next year, no one wants to see anyone getting hurt at our events from having the improper car safety aand personal equip.

It's good to see a lot of people share similar thinking about restructuring the classes. And a lot of good points being made. So far these seem to have the best chances ?
Sport Compact....( any ET ) Sportsman...........(12.00 & slower ) - foot brake Pro.......................( 10.00 - 13.49 ) - no box S/pro....................( 11.49 & faster ) - box Bike/sled........... no changes. J/Dr................... no changes.
P/S...........The (Trophy class) & (Fast class) are good suggestions too. But that might be asking for too many classes? But with enough interest and persuasion anything is possible, all you need to do is keep asking for it. ;D
