Time to stir the pot again....Track owners meeting

I heard there is another track owners meeting coming up soon. And it's been sooo quiet in here lately ;D ;D ;D

Ever so often, I get inquires from modern muscle cars owners about drag racing. They seem sincerely interested in getting involved with the weekend bracket racing scene, but seem to become somewhat discouraged when they realize they have to start out in a PRO class. As most of them have cars capable of running 12-13 seconds in street trim. Some of these folks do play at the track on Tuesday nights.
Although "we" know every class has it's seasoned racers, most beginners (including some of the regular Tues night racers) have the feeling that the street/sportsman class would be much more suited to them while starting out as a new bracket racer.

Therefore: I am recommending that the track owners should at least discuss the idea of over lapping the Street/Pro ET breaks for those folks.

Street/sportsman ( 12:00 & slower ) recommended
Pro ( 13:49 - 11.00 ) newly changed already.



While I'm on here pleading for changes......I would like to thank the track owners for changing Pro down to 11:00's. I was taken by surprise that it actually happened.
The only other thing I would like to see is an overlap placed between Pro & Super Pro.
Just so the folks who's cars hover around the 11:00 break can pick either one class or the other to stay in for the entire points season. Instead of starting out running S/Pro numbers in the spring cool air....then back to Pro for the hot/humid Summer.....then back to S/Pro for the Autumn cool air again.

Pro is OK now at ( 13.49 - 11.00) newly changed already.

S/Pro just needs to go back to ( 11.49 & faster) the way it was until just recently.


This is only an opinion.....like it or not......I think it could be good for the sport.

I think the Sportsman Pro overlap would be good , for exactly the reason you stated. That would give quicker Sportsman car a choice of which class to run , and give newbies a chance to get their feet wet without the extra intimidation of the Pro class. It is hard enough for some to get used to the racing format without having that car beside you with open headers.

I never knew that S/Pro had changed and the new pro break is just a number as you still have to meet the tech requirements for 11:49 and quicker

Seems to me that every year we either have the same amount of cars(sometimes less) but more classes - Years ago we had Stock, Superstock, Modifed and Comp each with a ton of sub-classes and IHRA/NHRA mandated indexes.

Today we have Stock and Superstock combined into one, Super/Pro(the biggest), Pro(growing), Street(dying), Sport Compact(still new), 8.90, 9.90, and 10.90 classes(Pro and S/Pro cars) and that's in addition to who knows how many classes those special events in Miramichi add to the mix.

Personally I prefer racing on Saturday with the Box/No Box format and RANDOM pairing for the first few rounds. That way you don't get to fuss over who you're going to meet until you hit the staging lanes. I've redlighted so many times in the first round of Street it's not funny but have almost always managed to get one or more rounds in a Gamblers race(even won one)

Funny how a lot of the more successful tracks south of the border have just Box and No Box although a few of them add the ".90" classes and Pro Mods from time to time. Sometimes "less is more" you know.........

well i see your point Don but box/no box not for me.i'm in the same boat as you driving a slow street car (high 15's)and i ran box/no box once and got paired with a 10 second car and it made me a little nervous to know when he caught me at the 3/4 mark he was going 140 to my 75-80.i wouldn't mind if speed was a little closer but some of those superpro cars run nobox and some are on the edge at the top end.once i get a faster ride (which is in the works ) it won't bother me as much. i hate being chased all the time but it has its advantages as i know my car and dial it to what it runs and don't try to play games i am still too green to try besides i believe in running it all the way out the top end.

just as the discussion about class restructuring was to go to page 2 here we go again. somebody, anybody, make a sound decision. this poor old dead horse is gettin beat up bad again............ watching with great interest !!!

I still have to agree with sixpack on this one . For the sake of the newbies. After all, we DO want new racers at the track right ?

Just to clarify:
The purpose of overlapping the classes is not about meeting safety requirements, but more about creating a convenience for some of the racers.

It gives the racers an option to pick a class that they can chase the points in for the entire season with out being forced to sand bag on the days with really good air.

I like Travis's idea .

I can not think of any "real" disadvantages to his proposal .

I'm confused Jeff...........do you wish for this discussion to be over already............or hope it keeps going because it's interesting?

It's not really all that important to me......I will enjoy drag racing regardless. It just seemed like a good idea.........Thats all.
