Now lets talk about the hypocritical BS I read this morning about helmet ratings. IHRA's rules about seat belt, tranny shield etc replacement is heresy and in the opinion of many driving people out of the sport because of the expense. I don't understand what hypocritical BS you are referring too. I am however curious to know how can you defend one rule so vehemently, and yet call others heresy? That seems hypocritical. IHRA feels a Snell "M" rated helmet is more than safe enough to 8.49 in a bracket car. But dare to show up with a 12 sec car and an "M" helmet you are a cheap mofo. "M" rated helmets can be bought at any motorcycle shop out there, reasonably priced and more than safe enough. Effing spare me your hypocrisy. I don't see where anybody called anybody a cheap mofo. People were simply offering their opinion on the subject. If any racer feels comfortable wearing an M rated helmet, or no helmet, that's their prerogative. Again, I don't understand the hypocrisy comment. Neither do I see anyone else making personal attacks towards fellow racers in an effort to make their point. As a side note, the general rules can be often overruled by specific class rules, as in the *rod classes, where SN-2000 helmets are required.

Personally, I wouldn't let the rule interpreters decide the value of my head. There's a reason for different designations. Each one is designed and tested for specific applications. Just because the rule can be read to say you don't specifically need an SA helmet, doesn't mean it's not a good idea. Bell used to have an ad: "if you've got a 10 dollar head, by a 10 dollar helmet, if you're heads worth more, by a Bell"If my melon ever happens to be bouncing around inside a roll cage, I want it to be protected by a helmet that was designed for it. Hello!!!!!

Seriuosly? By me making reference to an old Bell Helmets ad, you twist it to say that I'm calling someone a cheap mofo? That's a bit of a stretch.
If Dudly feels that is what I meant, then I do sincerely apologize.

Give it up guys - I kind of thought that page three was the end of this thread and even posted what I thought was a funny pic to lighten the mood. But no - now the fight is to get the last word in. What amazes me is everyone is basically on the same page about helmets but can still manage to fight about it. Don't make one bit of sense to me.......
P.S. As Administrator I will ALWAYS have the last word LOL. I just don't like to exercise that right.

it's nice to see some humor injected every once in a while. that's what i try to do. albeit sometimes tasteless humor i still try. safety is not to be taken lightly anytime but if anyone is comfortable with what they wear for a helmet just make a note of it on their tech slip, get them to sign it, and let them go. if a serious problem occurs the onus is on them not the track.

Geez Mario, Take a Valium, or a drink.....or a nap!! The overall conscientious on this seems to be that you utilize whatever you feel comfortable & safe with, as long as it meets the standard for your class requirements. If you choose to go beyond the bare minimum required, then that should be your personal choice. For the life of me I can't comprehend why this is creating such a major controversy.

no offence taken here. I couldn't find the rules in the book and was thinking somebody would know where to find it. I did not think starting this thread would ever get to this point. But anyway my helmet is ordered and will be in next week. thanks

Wonder can anyone tell me what m2000 inside the helmet means?Got a bell 2 weeks ago ,found m2000 tag inside and snell but cant find a DOT label on it,helmet is a quality full face but cant find any other other markings ,the info posted on here about helmets was very useful, as before this post I really didnt know much about them, most shops apparently sell motorcycle helmets as far as I can see. If mine isnt the proper type to pass tech can anyone tell me who locally sells automotive specific helmets as I want the proper equipment ,got to keep the ol head in one piece as I need to write some new material to harrass Mario with lol!!
