So a Snell M Approved full face trumps everything else, nice to know. No Mario I wasnt joking, I've never raced there but when I hear people say they dont go there because of tech as a first timer thats travelling 3.5hrs of course I have concerns.

Look on the bright side Chris, if you forget your helmet you can steal your brother's and actually be safer, lol
One of the biggest issues right now is the fact that neither NHRA or IHRA in the current rulebooks recognize the new ECE saftey standard that manufacturers like ICON use, It's actually stricter testing than SNELL in most cases so if any Tech in the Maritimes turns away one of those its a mistake, hopefully common sense rules and someone doesn'y get told they cant race cause there new $600 Icon helmet aint good enough

I better dig out my helmet to see what it's rated for. In Sam's defence (if he needs it ;D ;D ;D) he is more than easy to reach when you have questions about "teching" your wheels. The rule book is like the friggin bible, hard to read - hard to find it all in one spot and hard to remember it all when your done. He helped me all winter to correct what was wrong with my car in it's previous life through phone calls, a visit to my place and emails. In my opinion he's not out to spend anyone's money, he just wants everyone to be safe. It's like my motorcycle license instructor said " Please wear a decent helmet - it makes it easier for the fire dept to clean the mess off the road when you head for the rhubarb on your foot pegs".

Actually if you look I tell people if you are buying a helmet buy the SA rated as that is for cars if you drive a car, and they are tested for cars. So what is the big deal in $15.00 more for a helmet that won't MELT TO YOUR HEAD IN A FIRE OR SPLIT OPEN. NUFF FREAKIN' SAID.
lets go back to teching the old way that has been done in the past, just say that's good enough and let them go.
If people are scared to come to Greenfield because of tech then they are missing out and have no one to blame but themselves.

Well thanks again for the info on where to find it in the rule book on helmet rating for bracket racing. I looked in the book before I ask if anybody knew. I could not find it but thanks to all for giving the page numbers. Also I find the tech at greenfield very cooperative and easy going. Maybe it is because of my car only running in the 12's. They have never given me a hard time just pointed out things I have missed and said correct it for next time. thanks. Rules are rules

i have both rule books, ihra and nhra, thanks to Kandy mitton. but they are the worst bathroom read out there. not a lot of grey matter or a big IQ in my shoulder orb, but understanding some of the rules are tough to figure out. not making much progress as i have to read the same section about 3 times to narrow down what point they are actually trying to get across. it can easily be misunderstood to read a totally different way. but that's what the rule benders like about those books. if it doesn't say specifically what you CANNOT DO then it might be OK till it does. then the rule book will look like War and Peace with a 1000 pages or so.

Well, I've got a NINETEEN SECOND race car but I am still going to buy a new drag race helmet and toss my 4 year old motorcycle helmet in the trash. Am I happy about it? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! But I have to do what I have to do to pass tech.
I hear a LOT of grumbling and growling over belt and window net date codes but nothing even compares to the way some people tell me they feel about the "new(?)" helmet rule. Make no mistake - some people are really pissed about the "Tech crackdown" and it will keep some of them away. It's too bad they feel that way but it is their loss.
What bothers me the most is some people will spend tens of thousands on the latest trick parts to make their cars quicker but won't spend one cent to make themselves safer.

Personally, I wouldn't let the rule interpreters decide the value of my head. There's a reason for different designations. Each one is designed and tested for specific applications.
Just because the rule can be read to say you don't specifically need an SA helmet, doesn't mean it's not a good idea.
Bell used to have an ad:
"if you've got a 10 dollar head, by a 10 dollar helmet, if you're heads worth more, by a Bell"
If my melon ever happens to be bouncing around inside a roll cage, I want it to be protected by a helmet that was designed for it.

Well said Todd!!! I think that when considering the interpretation of safety rules & how they are enforced, it is always better to err on the side of caution. Another 10c worth....
