ACSSA RACE REPORT #3

The third race in the 2014 ACSSA series was sure to be one for the record books, with a tie in the points leading into the race. The number of entries steadily increased until race day with a total of 23 cars making the call for the first qualifying session.
It was great to see Wendell Howes piloting his 1968 SS/IA Barracuda for the first time at one of our ACSSA events. He proved a force to be reckoned with until red lighting against the always tough Greg Nickerson in round number 3.
The weather leading up to the event promised dry skies with a chance of showers late in the day. When the rains came, it came in buckets and everyone went scrambling to get undercover, similar to last year’s event.
With all cars passing technical inspection and weigh in. It was time for first of two qualifying sessions with a recorded density altitude of 2040 ft.

Some good runs after the first qualifying pass. Scott Underhill set the bar high, with a -1.387 blast. The top twelve cars all under one second under the National IHRA index. Despite the rising DA for the second qualifying session to 2400 feet, some driver’s improved their ET’s from the first session.
