Welcome to 2012 and right out of the gate, we're playing catch-up on some news that Dave Anthony uncovered this week.
...from the Sackville Tribune Post, November 16, 2011.
Sackville racing brothers Fred and George Estabrooks were honoured in their sport recently when they were inducted into the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame.
More than 200 guests were on hand for last Saturday evening's induction ceremony at the Ramada Plaza in Dieppe, in which several Maritime motorsports legends were commemorated, including the Estabrooks' brothers, who have been building and racing drag cars for nearly 50 years.
"This was a real honour and a privilege to be inducted among some of the greats in motorsports," said George. "This was a very big thing for us."
This year's inductees also included stock car driver Bobby Allen, motocross racer Heidi Cooke, stock car driver and builder Edward Hanley Jr., motocross builder and competitor Ear Doucette, antique builder and collector Paul Forgrave, snowmobile driver Albert Gallant, motorcycle competitor John Johnson and the PEI Street Rod Association.
George and Fred, both retired school teachers, have been competing and building cars since 1962 and hope to continue on in the years to come.
"We're both still driven with the passion to do this," said George.
Both were working as mechanics at Lounsbury's 50 years ago when they realized their love for "making cars go fast," said George.
During their ensuing teaching years, they even put students in their shop classes to the test, developing a competition between each of their schools to see which drag car would come out on top.
The two have become regulars on the drag racing circuit over the years, with their most recent wins coming at the Miramichi Dragway Park and the School's Out Down Homer's Bash in Cape Breton.
George's Camaro entry finished in the top 10 of all Super Pro cars in the Maritime provinces in 2011.
"We've had our fair share of success in the sport over the years," he said.

While I was surfing through the pictures today, I found a few others to share around. I'm hoping that these images help tide everyone through the winter months.

Nevin Scott launchin' the "Big Tire" in Greenfield
