I really like the approach this track owner took, taking the time to write a letter and address all the rumours concerning his track and what racers can expect in the near future. In my opinion, a little communication like that can go a long ways. www.atcoraceway.com/newsflash.phpChris

Chris, I read Joe's letter and thought he was just tired and frustrated with the pain being inflicted on him by his local "thinkers".
Seriously though, this sport has been fighting for it's life for 25+ years and it still lives on. But now as the population ages, so does the racer base, and things each year seem to just continue to scramble around in turmoil. Meanwhile a handful of people (usually volunteers) continue to promote and breath life into a sport that the masses do not really understand and as the numbers will show, don't really care about. Why??? Perhaps the thinkers might have the idea to save the sport, but to date it hasn't been uncorked yet. The fact is, this sport needs its volunteers and it need lots more than it currently has. These volunteers do all these thankless chores only for the love of the sport, no other reason. These days, drag racing tracks all run on shoe-string budget and weather, fuel prices, and the "thinkers" all have a huge effect on the year end bottom line.
Locally, we are really blessed with an older but pretty good crew and they expel barrel's of sweat to make each event happen, each year. There are still lots who will pull in, race, leave, and then lament over some horrible turn of events that put them in the losers column. That's the kind of stuff that continues to hold the sport back in the dark ages.
If you really do love drag racing, why not pitch in and grab a broom or a shovel, join your track committee or even just stop by with a cold bottle of water for a sun-beaten track worker. Then each event will mean that much more to you.
Merry Christmas to all track owners, volunteers, supporters, and racers.
Gerard

Very well said Gerard!! Maybe Santa will bring us all an extra dose of common sense, & the ability to see a little farther than our noses with regards to what the sport needs to continue onward & possibly flourish. ;D ;D
