Wow what a weekend, after a week of just brutal weather, by Fri morning we had had 170 MM (7 inches) of rain in 7 days. But it cleared up on Fri and was an awesome weekend weather wise, racing wise and fun wise.
End of the year and lots of stuff showing its age including the timing system. Bruce as always "The Man" on that stuff stayed until he figured it out. Initial prognosis was a bad receiver at the start line but turned out to be a bad power supply. Too bad it took so long to find it was an easy fix then. But many thanks to Bruce Howatt for being the man on the spot and keeping it working as long as it did. Too bad the program did not get done but everyone I talked to seemed very happy with the racing we did get done.
Well cannot really say "WE" since I did not participate. Hemmed and hawed very hard on Tues night when I figured out how hard my motor was pushing water to the overflow. But I loaded it up, after track prep and some socializing Sat morning I went for a time trial. Car left real hard and felt good for about 30 feet and then there was this horrendous crunching sound from behind me. Have not checked the extent of the damage yet but I would say either the ring or pinion gear does not have a tooth left on it. Did get offered multiple sets of gears but the ambition level was way too low to go thru the work , did take a fair amount of abuse over my laziness ;D ;D ;D ;D . Since I was unsure of the total damage and it was probably the best thing for the motor anyway, it should be easily fixable as should the rear end.
Now I have heard of Chevy guys hating Mustangs but to the point of throwing connecting rods at them at the top end of the track!!!!! Was funny afterwards but not while it was happening but Jeff Wilson obviously had parts as worn as mine. His small block disintegrated after the lights, tore most of the front of the block apart and threw a rod into the other lane. Promptly oiled his brakes and he had a heck of a time getting stopped. Good job Jeff and my sympathies on all the broken parts.
Some other parts breakages and assorted other issues delayed things on Sat and with dark coming so early Sat's racing was finished on Sun.
Some congrats
Bob Partridge on his Quick 32 win, Bob has had the summer from hell with tranny troubles to no end. Congrats Bob on getting thru them and taking the win. Congrats to Dave Constable on the runner-up.
To Ray Bourque and Ray Roach on running off for the Hi-Roller money, sorry do not remember who won. Was hoping for a report from Earl to refresh my memory. ;D ;D Ray, Ray and Kandy all lost in the 1/4 finals to setup a 3 way race for the money as they were the last hi-rollers left.
To Clayton Howatt who went to the 1/4 finals in all 3 classes Sat, I beleive he lost the final of the Box class and the semi's of Quick 32. After winning 12+ rounds in Sat racing he did not win a round on Sun. Drag racing is so fickle, as I hear so many people say "What a sport!!!!!!!". ;D ;D ;D ;D
Good time was had by all Sat evening at the Brackley Northwinds as Kevin hosted a social evening and awards presentation.
