October!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes the season is almost done. One more race for me, 3 straight weekends on the road is enough for me.
Great weekend at MDP, yep the weather pretty much sucked but got enough passes in to make me happy, met a few more people I had not talked to before, looked a really cool car over, shared a couple of meals with friends, for the 2nd straight weekend got to be there when a good friend won a championship. It was all good , runner-up in the gamblers just sealed the deal. ;D ;D
Big congrats to John MacKinnon on the Super Pro points championship at MDP. Tough start to the year with engine woes put him out of the running here and with the ADRA but raced his butt off at MDP. He has been fustrated the last couple years at how he has been racing and this really helped his frame of mind. Had to go some rounds to hold onto it and did the job. BUT also sympathy on the bruised car. John put fresh slicks on the car, fresh sidewalls along with a startline with teeth made the car a bit wild. Big wheelstands for a tube chassis car and pulling hard to one side. Was alright until 3rd round Sun morning when it went real high and he had to lift, got back into it to keep from hitting too hard and things got out of control. Came down hard again and glanced off the wall. Beat up the front clip, marked up the door. Unfortunately the guardrail caught the edge of the doorframe and pulled it back. Looks ugly but very fixable. Lot of pluses and minuses on the weekend but he was still grinning at the championship, just wishing it had not cost as much as it did. ;D ;D
Congrats to Chris Russel on the S/P win, was in the other lane when John hit the wall. Chris went under for technically the loss but with the first or worst rule he was back in and went on to win the deal.
I was .497 red in the first round and went 9.738 on a 9.74 dial. Technically a .005 package just the wrong way everywhere. ;D ;D ;D No one cares when it is all minus.
Congrats to Chick Couglin on the Bike/Sled win, made a good run at 5th place in points.
Met Adam Bird for the first time and took a look at his car. I love me some Ford power and Adam's is a great example. A very stout small block with some wild parts on it. Beautiful car, very clean and well detailed in every way. Unfortunately he broke some pcs and the engine erupted in a cloud of smoke. Saw on facebook a couple of pistons decided enough was enough. Talked to him about his daughter who had an unfortunate incident early in the year. The injuries are healing well and she is talking about getting back in the car, good signs and wish her all the best.
Way behind the times here and shows how long it has been since I was at MDP before this year. Saw Steve Collins's Dart for the first time. Steve had a grin a mile wide Sun morning when he went a 9 for the first time. Dave MacKinnon had gone over to Bathust a few times to work on the car and talked about the major reconstruction done on the car, beautiful job Steve and congrats on the 9 sec pass.
With mineshaft air and a starting line with major teeth a lot of personal bests set on the weekend. Repeated my 9.69 from Cape Breton but with an ailing fuel pump the top end power was not there and did not go over 140. Best previous 60 was a mid 1.33, destroyed that one with a 1.319 Sun morning. Pretty sure John went a 1.23 60 thru the weekend for a personal best.
Congrats to Glen Frizzell on the gamblers win. Terry was planning on shutting down after the points racing was done but was gracious enough to give us early rounders from Sat another crack at it. My string of "better lucky than good" continued with all 4 of my opponents redlighting on my way to the final. Then fate, karma intervened and I had a .496 in the final. ;D ;D ;D ;D
