Those imports are very impressive for 4 cyl. FWD cars .
I was given an example of their capabilities in PEI about 10 years ago.
A street driven white Honda Civic was lined up against me in a time trial - he had a wheelie bar on the back that he hydraulically lowered to get more weight up front on his slicks . I kind of giggled at this ( FWD + wheelie bar )
We launched together and I was about half track and I could see him in my rear-view mirror way / way back ,so far it seemed like he had broken.
Well - Was I surprised when he went by me at 135 MPH and actually took the stripe.( Approx 11.50 )
I was kind of emparrissed as this front wheel drive street car was quicker than my drag only ,huge slicked rear drive race car.
This all being said - I still like to wear my favorite T-shirt that says " Real drag cars don't spin the front tires - they lift them " - LOL !

no doubt benny that was danny legere's civic. it was later into the 10 sec range. it ran for years with stock rear brakes too. the bar was lowered for launch and raised as the car hit 2 nd or 3 rd gear for weight transfer and traction. neat setup !!
