Never mind, it says no heads-up. But there is heads up in the Maritime Series. What would happen?

it's all shoepolish racing anyway unless you get up against another car with the same index...

I did know that. Since the Maritime series say it's open to NHRA and IHRA class cars, I made up an example with two cars from both sanctions in the same class, but I'm assuming they actually use IHRA's indexes and factors..? instead of mixing the two..?

Jeremy, I don't make the rules, but if I did I would say that it's a dial-in race. With the different HP factors they are effectively two classes; despite the fact that they happen to have the same letter on the window. But as you say; the chance of that scenario happening around here is very low.
"Jeff if you would have look at our Maritime Stock/SuperStock page you would seen that we have rules along the same line as they do at other S/SS series and we might not do a fuel check but we use a set of scales to weight all cars." - Gerry Clow
Gerry, you're right in saying that the two sets of rules are very similar. While I feel that the Can-Am rules differ slightly in ways that in my opinion would lessen the tech requirement and possibly increase the fun factor, it's not something that I wish to trigger a debate over, so I'll leave it at that.
Gerry, with the large number of views since this thread was started it is obvious that a Stk/SS series still stirs up a lot of interest here in the Maritimes. I respectfully encourage you to make an announcement of some sort covering your intended plans for the 2010 season, while interest is high and while there is still time for people to freshen their rides before the season starts, should they be motivated to participate.

There have been heads up runs in the Maritimes, however not a lot. A number of the stock racers in the maritimes cars fall into the E to L classes. With the change of the NHRA indexes and the different horsepower ratings from IHRA and NHRA, the series should be run under one sanctioning bodies classification system and not both to be fair to all.
Thanks, Scott

I agree, Scott. I believe that IHRA includes all the NHRA classes plus their own crate motor classes, and on top of that they have retained the old (softer) indexes (at least so far). It would seem to me that IHRA would be the one to adopt locally. I think all local racers are used to IHRA's rules so it should be a non-issue. Maybe Gerry can clarify how they have been addressing this.
Heads up runs are indeed rare around here, but do happen occasionally. Jeremy's example was even more rare as it involved identical cars factored differently but both running H/SA. That specific situation was what my comment was in answer to, and was not meant to address heads up runs in general. His concern would definitely disappear altogether if we ran under the one sanctioning body only.

Yeah, I agree that it should be run under one sanctioning body. Maybe it always was, I guess that's why I asked. Now with the different indexes, I understand that it would have to be run under one sanctioning body. I think my question may have been more valid last year when the indexes were the same. Just curious more than anything.
I agree also, because of the crate motor cars and indexes, that IHRA would be the one to follow. All you would lose is the SS/AH class, but they would just put SS/AA on the window. Also, Pure Stock is an IHRA class. Maybe some people could read the rule book and get invovled with their daily drivers.

It also eliminates the people that try to manipulate the ladders which is becoming quite popular in the U.S. And also in the Maritimes. ;D This probably wouldn't ever happen, but I was just wondering what would be done: Say there were two H/SA Camaros. One runs IHRA all the time and the motor is rated at 254 hp. One runs NHRA all the time and the motor is rated at 263 hp. This means the IHRA car will be lighter. They meet in eliminations. It can't be heads up, can it? Maybe since the NHRA index is now 3 tenths lower, it would now be a shoe-polish race? Anyone know? h/sa is h/sa here in the maritimes, it's head-up that's it .now if you are slower car you should try to get out of that class before tech. and i do like the random draw Eliminations ladder, or on a 2 race weekend have one of each.one by Qualifying and the next day random,it would eliminate a repeat of the first race

Gerry, have you been able to contact any of the racers that don't show up in recent years to see what their reasons are? Have any suggestions been made?
