Welcome to our 934th edition of our Monday night ritual and this will contain some exciting information about drag racing.
For all of the racing enthusiasts that shared the dream of Cape Breton Dragway, it has been a long road travelled, however, we have finally arrived at the week of our inaugural NHRA National Open. Under the sponsorship of MS Micro Strategies and John Scotti Classic Cars the 2023 National Open Series is set to unfold this coming Friday and Saturday. The gates at the track will actually open on Wednesday morning and we do plan to host time trials for all classes, for the entire day Thursday.
This event will officially mark the achievement of a goal that has been targeted by the CBDRA directors for many years. This also unfolds as the CBDRA membership continues to work together at making this racer built facility, among the best drag strips there is. The Cape Breton Dragway facility represents the end result of countless hours of volunteer efforts. Efforts that continue to support the concept of putting drag racing is a safe and controlled environment, thus taking racing from the streets of our community.
We do have a very unique concept in a drag strip, where the entire racing facility has been constructed, managed, maintained, and competently run by drag racers themselves. The economics of such an undertaking is complicated and after enduring three summers of Covid 19 restrictions, we all look forward to having our track, Cape Breton Dragway, officially included into the history of NHRA drag racing in Canada.
This will be the largest event that the CBDRA has ever hosted and we are so grateful to all of our wonderful supporters that continue to assist us with piecing this entire idea together. Most recently, we must salute the kindness provided by Don LaVoie at Impression Promotions and Lynn Cormier with Castrol GTX Classic as they both also assisted Cape Breton Dragway with the first National Open.
So for this weekend, there will be four classes of gamblers racing, then for the NHRA National Open, the ACSSA will have two complete rounds of their Stock Super-Stock series, the Top Sportman/Top Dragster class will complete, also the Pro Tree Series will host two rounds of their Super Street, Super Gas, and Super Comp series. Then, on Sunday racers in five classes will also compete for CBDRA points as well as ADRA points. This will truly be a busy and exciting weekend for all involved.
Thanks to everyone that might find their way to one or more classes at this our inaugural NHRA National Open event and we wish you all safe travels.
Here is a quick review of the schedule and the run order for this coming weekend.
Also, here are a couple of links to the Atlantic Drag Racing Association (ADRA) and their current drag racing programs.

Next we will finish with a few photos from the winners circle at Cape Breton Dragway on August 20th where five more pairs of “Class Winner” decals went into circulation. Please enjoy and share these photos around as you wish.
That’s my deal for today I hope you all play safe and have a fun week . . . and weekend.
