Welcome to our Monday night ritual, and tonight for edition # 892, I'd like to share a link to the formal announcement from Mike Kelloway, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard and Member of Parliament for Cape Breton–Canso. Recently, ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) awarded the Cape Breton Drag Racing Association (CBDRA) a non-repayable contribution of $65,975 to assist with the completion of Phase III of their track enhancement program and Cape Breton Dragway. Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency Announcement
The summer of 2022 provided a brisk season around our track, and Phase III has really advanced Cape Breton Dragway into becoming a world class facility. With the annoucement of our NHRA sanctioning, our directors believe that Cape Breton Dragway now has the potential to serve many different sectors of motorsports. Already, groups have submited inquiries about this facility for 2023. We also are so very appreciative of all the support and efforts brought forward by our small group of believers. It been a monumental task to bring all of those original ideas into the reality of Cape Breton Dragway and although the news at many meetings was not always great, the original goals were never forgotten. Those meetings began way back in 1983 and a tour around the track in 2022 would reveal many of the same faces. Now, perhaps more seasoned with almost 40 years of representing the true fabric of drag racing. An important point to consider is now that we have things happening, and we are going to need an injection of some younger blood & sweat because many of those 40 year warriors are apporaching their best before dates. The track was created on some pretty strong beliefs and efforts and we're aware the we will need that same committement to maintain and operate this "racers" racetrack, in the days ahead.
Thanks to everyone that continue to support the efforts of Cape Breton Dragway and its really a special time when you're able to share the great news stories.
Here's a few photos from around the track this summer.
Play safe and have a fun week.
