With the winter nearly upon us and a need to find daydreams/projects to fill the hours, I thought I'd point prospective Stocker builders to this section of the ClassRacer website. It includes several good threads on budget approaches to choosing and building a competitive Stocker that can run under the Index on a budget. One of the most intriguing threads is the "Under The Index For Under A Grand" narrative by Billy Nees. Billy is well known in NHRA's Division 1 as a guy who can find obscure combos and go fast on a small budget, and this thread tells how he does it. It's an impressive read, and even more so when you realize that his goal was to go under the NHRA Index; 3/10ths quicker than IHRA's! (We use IHRA's here in the ACSSA) Billy shows that racing in Stock Eliminator doesn't have to break the bank as long as you inject hard work and the ability to scrouge for deals. Other threads in this CR section also describe budget builds, mixed in with some higher dollar efforts. All in all a good spot to get some inspiration! classracer.com/classforum/showthread.php?t=44903classracer.com/classforum/forumdisplay.php?f=58

Little body work and a second colour on the rockers......Why not prove it can be done Jeff?

For this one at least I'm just the "idea guy" Mark; I'll leave it to someone else to confirm just how easily this could be raced as a competitive Pure Stocker.

In the days since I pointed you towards the ClassRacer threads on budget Stock and Super Stock builds, a little local flavour has been added to that site. Jim Miller of Elmsdale NS (or that area at least); who calls himself "Goinbroke2" on ClassRacer, has posted on there about the early Fox body Mustang that he raced years ago and now plans to build into a crate motor Stocker. Best of Luck on the build Jim! classracer.com/classforum/showthread.php?t=50312

Thanks Jeff, I'm still hedging my bets though. I sent away the spec's to Bullet for a 302 2bbl cam too "just in case" this turns into a T/SA. I thought it would be a U/SA because I was using the 83's weight, but if I change the nose and get the 79 engine parts and called it a 79, the 79 is actually lighter than a 83 which makes it a T/SA. Whatever, still rather run a Stocker than a crate motor but we'll see how it works out.
This will certainly be a "low buck build"...you see the truck I drive? I rest my case! LOL!

Thanks Terry, with the 302 2bbl rated SO low and the 302/270hp crate engine reduced to 250hp I aught to be able to get to the index with one of them without spending any great amount. (when was the last time you saw stocker and "without spending any great amount" in the same sentance?) LOL!
Worst case scenario for me is, I have a bracket car that needs money/time as it will allow to become legal. At least I'll be on the track again.
