Looking at the IHRA rule book the other day, I noticed that in CM Stock and Stock GT you are allowed to run V8 Chevy S10's, and Ford Rangers.
My thought of this it that it opens up many already running vehicles in the maritimes to Stock.
I'm not sure of the Ford combos, But the potential for some fast S Trucks is there, with the under 3000 pound shipping weights! Just think, anything from 2BBL 283's to 400 CID Smog Engines in Gt, or Crate Small Blocks making up to 500HP!
Example
1995 S10 Reg Cab Short Box
Normallly 4.3 180HP @ 188HP has a weight break of 15.87, so thats 2984 LBS!
So lets go with the readily available 350 Vortec, Use a production pickup engine, change Cam and add a Carburetor you have a 350-330HP Crate Engine, which is factored at 330.
2984/330=9.04 Weight Break. G/CM
9.00x330=2970+170(Driver)= 3140 Pounds in race trim.
G/CM Index 11.80
Easy way into the series, and a quick ride to boot!

Very interesting suggestion Chris! As you've stated there are quite a few V-8 S10s running around, and some of them may be easily converted to an IHRA Stock legal configuration. A potential roadblock to that are the minimal body mods allowed. While rear bumpers are optional and tonneau covers are accepted, the factory flat hood and grill must be retained. Moderate lowering is OK but the suspension must basically remain stock except for bolt on traction devices. Of course the engine combo must be built to Stock legal standards as well. If anyone would like to know all the details regarding whether their S10 or other vehicle might fit in a Stock or Super Stock class they can find all the information needed in the IHRA Rulebook at this link: www.mydigitalpublication.com/publication/?i=136499
