Everyone knows the story of Shirley Muldowney; the multi-time NHRA Top Fuel champion who is credited with paving the way for other women to succeed in racing. (If you are one of maybe two people in the world who don't know who she is, stop what you're doing and watch the movie "Heart Like A Wheel", at this link: ) Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine features articles by Shirley, and in the February 2013 edition she talks about the time she was a Super Stock match racer. I won't relay all the details in case you want to check it out yourself, but she raced a 1963 Max Wedge Mopar against another factory backed Max Wedge, and spoke about how involved the factories were in racing in those days. She also praises the crowd appeal of the Super Stockers. I had never realized that she had made any Super Stock passes in her career and found the story pretty interesting. Here's a link with more info on Shirley's Stock Eliminator activities back in the early days of her career: classracer.com/classforum/showthread.php?t=46419
