Hey Guys,
Looking for some information on a few things about a 77 460 ford motor in a motorhome.
Specifically, I'm wondering what type of ignition it uses and where I could tap in to get a real oil pressure reading.
Any help would be great - Thanks
Rob

There are 2 external oil gallery ports, one is directly above the oil filter on the drivers side of the block (pretty much next to the fuel pump) and the other is on the top of the block behind the intake manifold - easy access to it if you have a removable dog-house. As for the ignition, it likley has duraspark electronic ignition - if it is there would be a 3 wire plug on the distributor (blk/purple, blk/org and blk) and if you follow the harness it should lead to the durapark box which is your ignition module. Keeping a spare module in the truck is a good idea, they are reliable but like any electronic's they can die a sudden death leaving you stranded. I wired a duraspark box into my car incase my MSD box die's at the track. ...If I ever get there....LOL

Stu's got ya covered on the oil ports, as far as ignition goes, there is alot of companies out there now that is making the popular HEI GM style dizzy to put in the Fords and Mopars, just run a switched 12v source to it and your good to go for thousands of miles.

She'll reject any foreign bowtie parts in short order. ;D ;D ;D....If you did buy one, stay away from the Pro-comp units - I've heard more than one horror stories lately about their Ford conversion distributors. Personally, I've had many duraspark setups (had one in the Merc) and I only had one box that would freak out if it got wet - let it dry off and it ran fine again....LOL

Thanks Stu and Sam,
The ignition seems weak when the rig first starts. A few good revs seems to clear it up. It could be a carburetor choke issue as it was just rebuilt. It's a strange looking Holley with a thermal choke in the intake.
I have a Mallory VIA box I could use, but if it's considered a reliable unit by you blue oval boys - it's good enough for me!! LOL

I have had to repair a few of the dizzies as well because of no advance because it is seized and that was a issue of it running smooth.

On the duraspark dizzy's or HEI???....I have seen the vacuum advance linkage seize on the Ford dizzy's but I usually don't use it anyways and it can be free'd up easily if desired...LOL.....A rebuilt duraspark dizzy is well under $200 with the tax at Diesel and Auto, really cheap on Rock Auto too.

Good to know, I just got a used Duraspark for a spare but the thing had a 16L and 21L slot- way too much timing for my needs...LOL....But it's good for a core.

Hey Guys,
What kind of timing does this motor like? I'm kind of rushing to get it ready for next weekend. Not only is it our first outing with the old girl, but I'm going to tow with it.
I pulled a sparkplug out, they are autolite 25's. They are a bit sooty, but like I said, I haven't even given it a decent run yet..
The motor has 68000km on it and I assume it came with motorcraft plugs orig, so these are replacements. Are there any ford preferred plugs? I mean, for me, AC Delco is the only way for my chevy's.. The AC cross is a R44TS, which is a fairly hot plug for a chevy.
It runs decent enough, but I will be giving it a tuneup before the next run. I have too much on the plate to get it done this time around..
Thanks
Rob
