Welcome to Monday and once again tonight we have a summary of the events of this past weekend. Some of the photo's tonight are from our friend George White over at www.donkin.com and the others I've collected in between rounds at Cape Breton Dragway.
Len Nicholson folding the laundry.
Damon Courtney all outa focus.
Chris O'Neill and Todd Chase with Tony MacNeil
Emily MacDonald in her junior also made the Cape Breton Post today.
Spencer Phillips had tons of fun this weekend in the Vega.
Michael Leudy in his new ride.
Benny Niestens new ride, In-novation.
. . . he's back, Kevin King rides again.
Just in case you forget, the ADRA presented the Cape Breton Dragway with a banner to mark the 2011 Team Race Championship.
Lonny Wright had himself and the Mustang all dialed in.
Greg Gillis worked over his latest ride, '68 Dart.
Joey Carroll had a minor thrash on Friday night but enjoyed most of his Saturday rides.
JD Muggah was also hookin' things up in Sydney.
And now as promised the "The Adventures of Tigger."
Well to begin "Tigger" is the latest nickname to attach itself to Tony MacNeil's newest bracket racer, a Dakota pickup. With V6 power and a skillful bracket racer, the combo is complete for some fun rounds of gamblers racing and Sunday afternoon prize and points pots, for the entire 2012 season.
So to set the stage, I showed up with the Corvette and Tony and I set up camp for the weekend side by side. Shortly after a few minor tweaks, it was "let's go" time and both of us were not so proud of the initial runs. Before long, the other part of JNB Racing was on site and a fresh round of banter and giggling quickly ensued. Suddenly I heard "ok lets go again, $100 for best light." Now based on the lights we had both delivered in the earlier runs, that was just a crazy challenge. I suggested we both should just get to work on the task of improving and not the going broke part.
Anyway, over the course of Friday and Saturday we both logged several time trials and once the gamblers was announced, we were both getting pretty comfortable again in both vehicles. Through the random pairing process I would end up with my buddy Chris Pozzebon, in the 1st round of no-box. I got away green but that was all the green I would see in the "No Box Gamblers." Tony & Tigger and Jason, my pit partners both arrived back with their white slips. So the showdown between Tigger and the Vette, was still a possibility since we all had done the double entry deal.
First round of Box Gamblers, again random pairing and I get another close friend, this time it's Rosa Niesten. We all know just how capable Rosa can be and over the PA system I'd heard about her perfect light earlier in the day. I got lucky 'cause Rosa squeezed a little too hard and went red. Whewww, through round one with some pretty good data on where things were with my car.
After a sandwich it was soon time for round two on the Box Gamblers. Tony and I are walking to our vehicles, Jason has disappeared and on approach to the staging lanes Jason is already set to go. Again through random pairing, I end up very aware of my opponent. Sure enough, it's the faceoff between "Tigger and the Vette". After a good-luck knod and thumbs up, we both well knew that braggin' rights were on the line and we both had to be ready.
To build the intensity, there was a timing error which saw my tree unload before Tony and Tiggers tree. I was dialed into my tree and I did find it stange because I was prepared to chase, instead I'm looking back and he hasn't moved. Ah great I though, I wanted to win, but wanted a close battle. Instead of pitting, I went right back up and once everything was righted, we lined up again to battle. Head knods were again exchanged and the table was set.
We're both away, green lights in both lanes and the chase is on, but wait, holy moly we're almost side by side at 1000 feet. This is gonna be close here I think I better lift and wow, frig . . . that was close. I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure I still had the stripe but man it was a close. Great there's Dave MacMillan with the time slip he's lookin at the white one and passes me the yellow one. Almost instantly I thought I could taste throw up in my helmet, . . . after two real good hits at the tree how could I get this yellow slip. So I start looking at the slip much closer and determine that I had won the race and was handed the wrong slip. So the game we'd played within the game, would have gone pretty much unnoticed to most but the truth be known it provided both of us with some of the fun we've grown to enjoy over the years.
Tony still kicks himself over his little nap he had yesterday, but hopefully it will inspire him to return the favor in a few shorts weeks. Here's a few more little treats I built to mark the arrival of Tigger to ranks of maritime bracket racers.
Here's a little Corvette something that Tigger gets to hold until the next round of "Tigger and the Vette."
