ADRA 15th Anniversary Season
The ADRA is really looking forward to the 2012 racing season and we wanted to give all of our members and potential members a peek into what we have in store for this year.
The ADRA points series will consist of eight scheduled events; two at each Maritime drag racing facility. Some folks are under the assumption that you should only be an ADRA member if you plan to run the entire points series, and that couldn’t be farther from the truth. As an ADRA member, you are eligible for all the programs that we have in place for each of these points races and you have a good chance at winning some great prizes and cash. As an ADRA member, you receive a membership card, series decals, the Eliminator newsletter, and are eligible for year end awards and a piece of the over $30,000 available in prizes and contingency.
The ADRA is entirely non-profit, and all of the funds raised through memberships, fundraisers, sponsorships, etc. goes back into promoting drag racing. We promote our sport in many different ways. The obvious one is by advertising for each event, track and the points series through posters, banners, newspaper, internet, t-shirts etc. The other way we promote drag racing is by putting money back into the racers hands through contingency, prizes, and year end awards. This gives racers a goal to strive for and allows them to re-invest in the sport by racing more. The motto of the ADRA is “Race on the track, not the streets” and if potential racers see our ads or hear about our points series, then maybe they will join us and become part of the drag racing family.
In particular for the 2012 season, we have added to our prizes and contingency list, and the details can be found here maritimedragracing.com/HTMLobj-19652/2012_ADRA_Programs_Payouts.pdf . If that’s not enough to make you want to get yourself to an ADRA race, don’t forget that we have a travelling announcer that comes with us. Jeff makes sure that the crowd is kept entertained and puts a little extra effort into explaining what is happening within the points series and where everyone stands, as well as extra plugs for our sponsors and yours. The ADRA will also be doing four pre-race car shows, one for each track. We will announce the details about the car shows well in advance, as it is a great place to display your vehicle and support local drag racing. Everyone is invited to these shows, and we ask that you drop by to give your support even if you can’t bring your race vehicle. To top all of this off, the ADRA will host the “2012 Team Race” in PEI. This is an opportunity for each racer to earn their way onto a team, and race to represent their local track. It is a really fun weekend, and a good way to close out the season.
If you ever thought about following the ADRA points series, it’s a great idea. There are a large group of racers that follow the tour, and at each track’s “ADRA race” the classes are larger, the crowds are larger, and there is more money and prizes to be won. You will also get to know all the other travelling racers better, and feel a sense of belonging as you are welcomed into this group. The competition is usually tight, which means you get to practice your sport with the best racers around and this will no doubt help anyone’s skills. If you need any more information about the ADRA and our points series, please visit www.theadra.com and contact any one of the executive team to answer your questions. Our membership form can be found here maritimedragracing.com/adra_membership_form.htm and we welcome any new members.
Here’s to a great 2012 racing season and we will be sure to get some results posted for all the ADRA events as they unfold.
Thanks,
Jason MacNeil
