Guess we'll try to get the ball rolling in this "Under construction" forum. A few weeks ago we picked up our latest project - a 1977 Hornet AMX clone that was sitting for a long time but still had 99% of the unique AMX body parts(front spoiler, flares, and rear window louvers) ABOVE: As found in the salvage yard - It had a lot of rust damage in the hinge post/cowl area on the driver's side and it took me a couple of rolls of MIG wire, a few days and God knows how many square feet of sheetmetal to fix. Also had to put a bottom in the driver's door and patch the rear bumper but it all came out quite well and we're ready for the drivetrain now.. ABOVE: Doors and fenders reinstalled and with a bit of red and black tremclad on the bumpers we've almost completed the "AMX clone" look. Next step: Install a bone stock 350 out of a one ton GMC and get our feet wet in the Street class at least once this year before we install the 12 bolt, the "good" engine, and a fresh coat of paint over the long winter months. So far an extensive search of the internet has turned up only three colours on these AMXes - red, white, and yellow(we're leaning toward white) Above: A 1977 AMX photo from a AMC brochure that shows the unique body parts. We are missing the Targa band that goes across the roof but may be able to adapt something else. Does anyone know if some Spirits or Eagles had a similar band across the roof? That's my current project - Now let's see what all of YOU have hiding in your garage or backyard

Right now it gets a totally stock 350 out of a mid 1980's GMC one ton. The "good" engine will have forged pistons / solid lifters / single plane intake. But that's enough information overload about my junk already - I want to see what all YOU guys are working on. It doesn't matter how much dust it has on it or how torn apart it is(that's why this section is called "UNDER CONSTRUCTION) ;D ;D

Not a whole lot left to do to the car now but bolt in the drivetrain and maybe some paint. I still have to gather up some minor engine parts plus get back all the parts that I've loaned out to other racers. There's only one stumbling block now and that's the rear end gear and tire size. To use the 5:38 gears, 15X14 rims and 14X32 slicks I have now means tubbing the car but still may be cheaper in the long run than getting new stuff. But, at least I have all winter to decide. As you can see in the photo below it's not going to take a lot of work to make those wheelwells a little bigger.

Thanks to all of you who purchased maritimedragracing.com decals we now have our front wheels and tires and some new front suspension parts on the Hornet. I was told the 15 X 6 aluminum wheels came off an early Imperial but later found out they were Lincoln. They are very lightweight with a zero offset(3" backspacing) and clear the calipers and tie rods perfectly. It only took one teeny little weight per wheel to balance them.

Got some wheels and tires(that hold air ;D) on the Hornet and it's ready for the trip to the garage for the winter works project. Thanks to Craig at Road Rage for finding a roll bar hoop that actually fits a Hornet. This winter: Install the cage, subframe connectors, 12 bolt and the rest of the drivetrain.

So will we get to see the hornet in the 2006 season at CB Dragway? ?

The car will be finished when we pick up a couple of sponsors and sell a few more advertising spots on maritimedragracing.com - if that happens by the start of the 2006 season it's fine. The class is yet to be determined - it all depends on the $$$ available. Worst case scenario is a bone stock small block in the street class with all the parts on hand now and no more $$$ spent. An ideal situation would be to make it quick enough for the Pro class. Super Pro is out of the question(and the budget) ;D ;D
