Welcome to edition #818 and tonight I'd like to discuss the status of our 2021 drag racing season. This past week, I've had a few discussions with racers and since there is a no shortage of information online about Covid-19, I thought I would share some Covid-19 information from the perspective of Cape Breton Dragway.
To begin, it does not appear that there will be an "Atlantic Bubble" for this summer. Apparently, all four provinces could not agree on the re-opening plan, so the Nova Scotia and PEI government have adopted a more cautious approach to re-opening. Nova Scotia has recently unvailed a five phase plan and also has included some time estimates.
Here's a link to follow the different phases. Right now we're in stage one.
Nova Scotia Re-Opening Phases
So based on what we now know, if all goes well, "they" project we will enter Phase 4 on July 14th, which will also see the outdoor gathering limits grow to 250. The final Phase 5 is slated to arrive sometime in September. Again, these are projections only.
So next, how can we tie all this information back into our 2021 race schedule. Well the CBDRA schedule still remains as posted but everyone needs to know that we are living in a very fluid situation. Things can change within hours and we will be subject to reacting in the best interest of making drag racing happen in Sydney. Some events could be repositioned if need be. To do our part, we would like to see everyone vaccinated as soon as possible and if you're out and about, stop in and get yourself tested from time to time. Not everyone is of the same opinion on this topic, so please understand that this post is the clear up some questions that some fellow racers had.
As I type here, I'm also listening and learning about the arrival of the "Delta Variant" in a couple of provinces. Ontario is now referring to it as the 4th wave. As I said earlier, stay tuned and hopefully we can make a great racing season out of this. The CBDRA has no plans to challenge the rule-makers and our funding would not permit such an idea.
Moving along, we're all pretty excited cause "Ideal Electric" has come along as the sponsor of the 2021 Quick 16 once again. Thanks as always to Doug Wrathall and Reg Desveaux for standing by the Quick 16 Events. At this stage its still on schedule (July 30-August 1st) but once again everything is also dependant on provincial borders and gatherings limits.
The photos tonight are kinda random and from September 2020 in Cape Breton. Enjoy them and share as you wish.
Well that's my deal for tonight, I hope you all play safe and have fun.
