Welcome to another edition of our Monday Nite ritual. This one is #759 and tonight I'm gonna share a little local car story. The isolation that we're currently experiencing could be lengthy so its great to see all of our racing colleagues sharing a look back in the history of our sport. Everyone and every race machine has a life story that is just waiting to be told. Tonights little tid-bit story centers around John Rankin and his 1974 Dart Sport. Apparently, "The King" Richard Boyd was instrumental in finding the car in New Brunswick and John officially finished the deal on November 11, 1992. Then, John and his dad towed it back to Mount Uniacke and with the help of his brother Jim, they had the car ready for the 1993 race season. John actually built the 318 under the hood while he was a student in trade school. The project had a successful start and Rankin actually claimed the 1993 Pro Points Champsionship at Maitland Dragway.
John also managed to run a few races at Raceway Park, PEI. The winning continued in 1994 when Rankin won the '94 Race of Champions at Maitland Dragway. Then in 1997 a decison was made and the car was sold. John continued to race but because of logistics, Ford became the best option for his racing efforts. Now spin the clock ahead to 2017, and the "Bad Medicine" Duster was was once again found sitting in New Ross, Nova Scotia.
So with another car deal now done, look whats in mirror here for another ride back to Mt. Uniacke.
Now, the project begins again but this time the street-strip Duster project will include the efforts of Johns 14 year old son Wyatt and his wife Tanya.
As you can see, the project is well underway and Wyatt is likely counting the days until its finally done. Good luck to the Rankin family with your latest project and be safe.
That's my deal for today, but lets all "Stay-Ta-Blazes Home" and stay safe.
