So we've officially opened Cape Breton Dragway this weekend. After many very long man hours, it was pure relief for the folks that toiled with this project for the last several weeks. Really, we were all feeling blessed by the support we received on so many levels, and by so many people. I really could never list everyone and if attempted, I would surely miss someone. Everybody can take a bow on this one, because this is a racers track. Built by racers, for racers, and done with the support of racers.
Friday August 26th
Thanks to the ADRA for the hot-rod display in downtown Sydney, at B&T NAPA Auto Parts. Bill Fogarty and his staff always enjoying showing off these cool rides.
Later in the day, I managed to click a few pics at the track and although lighting conditions were less than ideal, I found this next photo inside the camera. As soon as I found it, it was sent to the media and hoped it might actually make the sports page in Saturdays paper.
Saturday August 27th
Open the morning paper on race day and see this, words cannot describe how good that felt.
Later in the day I clicked a few pics and now somehow the date on the photo may not be 100% accurate. So sorry but I'm just too tired to correct.
Sunday August 28th
Here we are, the big day has finally arrived. It was under absolutely perfect weather conditions, that several notable people assembled to put this drag strip into the history books. First, I need to thank my good friend Whylie for stepping in to collect the photos of this event.
The group begins to assemble.
Mayor Cecil Clarke, a strong supporter of our cause, addresses the crowd.
Some well deserved words of praise for Claire Detheridge and her diligent work for our cause.
Rodger Cuzner, MP Cape Breton-Canso, addresses the audience.
Bruce Howatt, another great ambassador of drag racing, spoke on behalf of Atlantic Canadian drag racers.
In this photo, Cape Breton Dragway's leading lady, Councilor Claire Detheridge prepares to cut the official ribbon. Claire really believed in our idea and she pushed hard to see it succeed. It was really awesome to see the way she's battled through her own personal health battle and it was fitting that she could be a special part of this tracks history.
A small token for Gary Pozzebon's efforts to keep racing alive in Cape Breton, signed by friends and racers.
Cape Breton's Finest, the Men of the Deeps, blessed us with their rendition of Oh Canada!
Then is was time for Mayor Clarke to start the race between our club president,Gary Pozzebon and Jason MacNeil. Jason won the position by winning the Super Pro class, four weeks ago at Raceway Park in PEI.
Next Whylie, did a tour of the entire site and found a few more treasures. Please enjoy.
And here's the rest of what I've found and set up for tonight. I have several pics so this is a sampling. In no particular order. . .
I really need to mention that karma was alive and well in Cape Breton yesterday. Don went above and beyond with his help for our Tower fund and then he mowed down the field to claim his PRO Class victory. Just Friggin Perfect.

Before I leave, thanks to Glenn MacLean, Bill Clarke, Josh & Frank Goodwin, and Wayne Desveaux for their part in the recent raffles at the tracks to help in our Tower fund. Your kindness will not ever be forgotten. Then Don Lavoie, through Don's donation we were able to raise over $2600 on the weekend with more to come yet. Just and awesome day for racing.
I'm not suure if I got them all up so there may be some late add ons and duplicates to remove. Anyway, this edition needs to stop but if you need to see something just ask and I'll see what I can find for you.
The racing this week moves back to Raceway Park for the annual pilgrimage to the Labor Day Weekend race.
Play safe and have fun.
