There will be a meeting on April 12 at 2 PM. Meeting will be held at the Moncton Coliseum, in meeting room B. This will be a good opportunity to come out to shake off old man winter and talk some racing. Also a good time to either become a new member or renew your existing membership. See you there!

The first 2014 Atlantic Pro Tree Series meeting of the season was held in Moncton on Saturday April 12th. The purpose of the meeting was to update the general membership on any new developments and programs relevant to the upcoming race season.
The first item on the agenda was to introduce our new executive,
Series Director; Josh Goodwin
Series Secretary; Brenda Rafuse
Race Director; Debbie McGaughan
Public Relations Director; Todd Chase
8.90 Class Representative; Chris O’Neill
Back-Up Rep; Hal Schurman
9.90 Class Representative; Greg Power
Back-Up Rep; Spencer Phillips
10.90 Class Representative; Chad Ramsey
Back-Up Rep; Hilton Lee
The addition of the new race director position (we still need additional people from each individual track to assist Debbie on race days), as well as the three class representatives & their back-ups, will assist in making the events run more efficiently, & help to make the event more enjoyable for the racers & track personnel as well. Josh introduced a new simplified system for registering to race this season as well, which will consist of each participant receiving an entry form received when arriving at the track, which upon completion can be submitted with entry fee to the respective class reps, thus streamlining the sign-up process greatly.
Josh also mentioned that all of our local tracks this season will be utilizing the ‘Auto Start’ system, which will be a great benefit to the Pro Tree competitors at each event, providing a consistent & level playing field at each track. Kevin Powers was in attendance & explained some of the improvements to his facility for the upcoming season, including some pit modifications designed to ease access in the pits. A short discussion on the merits of quarter mile or eighth mile competition at the facility was discussed.
Josh explained the series’ points system and payout package for the 2014 season, which will remain essentially the same as last year as long as our sponsorship drive acquires the necessary funding to support it. The points program will be contested over the five race schedule, with competition points being tallied from each competitor’s three best event results, while attendance points will be gained from all five events in an effort to reward participation. Also carried over from last season is the qualifying prizes for all classes, presented again this season by Ray Bourque. The importance of aggressively continuing our sponsorship drive in order to obtain the necessary funds to reach the series goals was also emphasised. The surface has just been scratched with regard to potential sponsors for the series, & it is in everyone’s benefit to make an effort to obtain sponsors, as all funds collected are directly distributed back to the racers in prize purses, & obviously more dollars means larger purses. Josh also indicated that he was working with Don Lavoie to produce a trial run of series ‘T’ shirts (72 initially), which sales will certainly assist in reaching our targets. Don will again this season be producing our winner’s plaques as well as other promotional materials. Gord Chase of Blade Promotions has again offered to provide us a race track banner, & Dwight Cummins has agreed to produce the very popular oversize vanity cheques for the winners again this season.
Bill Clarke & Trans-World Distributing will again this season be our primary season sponsor, providing the series champion with a shiny new hoist & other yet-to-be discussed prizes. Also returning this season as a major sponsor will be FTI Convertors. As well, good number of last season’s sponsors have already signed on again for the upcoming season, & as soon as we finalize the complete list supporters, we will proceed with promotional materials featuring them.
It’s shaping up to be a great season of heads-up Pro Tree racing in the maritimes, and we welcome anyone who wants to try their hand at competing.
