I just wanted to give a BIG CONGRATS out to Greg Nickerson for his induction to the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame in the drag race category, the induction ceremony is this Saturday night at the Crystal Palace in Moncton...after the last couple of seasons of racing with Greg I cant think of a more deserving individual,knowledgable and with back to back ASSCA championships a very capable driver as well ..GREAT JOB!!

Gregory Allan Nickerson/NS (Lower Sackville) - Category: Drag Racing - Started racing in 1972. In 1985 was first Maritimer to win a NHRA sanction in SanAir Quebec. In 1986 Greg led a project team to re-open Maitland Dragway. In 2011 Greg went 14 rounds undefeated and clinched the Stock/Superstock Championship, yet again.

Congratulations to Greg; a worthy recipient if there ever was one! We're all proud of you!
"In 1985 was first Maritimer to win a NHRA sanction in SanAir Quebec.".......Not trying to detract in any way from Greg's accomplishments; but Barry Poole of PEI won Super Stock at the 1970 NHRA Winternationals (and repeated at the same event in 1971) with his 1969 Mustang.

Not looking to hijack this thread, but here's a list of Maritime NHRA National event winners to date. Barrie Poole, Jim Morrison and Todd Paton dominate the list with multiple wins each. Our Hall Of Famer Greg Nickerson is here in 1985, and Bill Sheppard and Fred Thibeault made the list in 1994 and 1995 respectively. Kelly MacKay came oh-so-close with his runner-up last month in Reading, but will have to wait until another time to bring home that Wally. i believe louis smith has a couple on the shelf as well but they might be just class win trophys.
but needless to say to greg congradulations on the accomplishment of being one of a few to make it into the hall.

Louis' Wallys are for class wins I believe, but they may have been for Divisional wins. I don't have a list of NHRA Divisional winners, nor do I have have IHRA winners, but I know that the Maritimes are well represented on both those lists too!

Congrats Greg!! I would imagine Dad remembers your win in Montreal that year. I would think it was the first and only time two maritimers were in the final together in a National event. If im wrong please correct me. Is there any other drag racers in the hall? And also note worthy is the fact that Todd is a world champ in TA/FC(IHRA), and i would think he is the only maritimer to run both FC and T/F !

Most of these names are a whos who of Maritime Drag Racing, and every year the HALL is looking for more, I have sat on the induction committee and they always like seeing new and fresh induction applications.Anyone can nominate a racer, you will need a write up of the racer giving their contribution to our sport and any career highlights , and then contact the HALL at 1-506-756-2110 and they will forward your nomination to i beleive Pat Donovan is the drag race rep for the HALL . There are plenty of great racers who would make a great addition to the HALL of FAME ..
