Pro Tree Series Race #3 Raceway Park, PEI
presented by Arsenault Cylinder Heads
Despite a questionable weekend weather forecast, race #3 of the Pro Tree series was completed on Saturday at Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI. Even with a lower overall car count in the pits we still managed to get decent fields with 24 racers showing up to make their qualifying passes in the Quick Rod, Super Rod, and Hot Rod classes. This time around the racing was contested on the 1/8th mile with indexes of 5.70, 6.40, and 7.00.
In Quick Rod, Jim Green grabbed the #1 qualifying spot with a 5.703, followed closely by Trevor Cowie (5.704), and Hal Schurman (5.709). Bob Partridge jumped to the number one spot in Super Rod with an on the dial 6.405, with Kevin Lively (6.454) and Laura Hogan (6.664) in the number two and three spots respectively. The Hot Rod ladder showed Todd Myers at the top with a 7.008, Berny Corscadden (7.017) and Chad Ramsay (7.044) rounding out the top three spots.
When the semi-finals rolled around in Quick Rod Doug Forbes earned the bye to the final while Trevor Cowie eliminated Todd Chase. When the lights came on in the final Doug was ready, cutting a near perfect .501 and forcing Trevor under the index by .004 at the stripe for the win. As Jeff said “the old guy still has it in him”!
The Super Rod class saw only six entries. The semi-finals had Vito Bosca earning the bye while Ray Bourque got by Laura Hogan for a spot in the finals. Vito got the advantage at the start line (.515 to .543) and coupled that with a 6.403 to Ray’s break out 6.332 for the win.
The Hot Rod class saw a few new faces at this event. The #1 qualifier Todd Myers was set to meet the series organizer Berny Corscadden in one semi, while Chad Ramsay earned the bye to the finals. Berny’s near perfect run (.501 light and 7.007) against Todd meant he was coming back up to meet Chad in the finals. Berny had a small advantage on the start line (.514 to .531), but Chad came back around to take it at the big end running 7.047 for the win.
The King of the Hill was shaping up to be a good one. Vito received the bye, while Chad Ramsay and Doug Forbes faced off. Chad took the win and the chance at the King of the Hill money and bonus points. In the final the racers were almost dead even off the line (.528 to .531), but after chasing Chad down Vito found himself .006 under the dial for the loss. Congratulations to all the class winners and especially to Chad Ramsay for his big payday in the King of the Hill race.
Once again, thanks to everyone who travelled to the track despite the weather forecast to take part in our series. It was great to see some new faces taking part, it shows the interest is there and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Our fourth and final event of the season will be at Miramichi Raceway on September 29-30. Hope to see everyone there!
A big thank you goes out to Arsenault Cylinder Heads for being the presenting sponsor of this race!!
