Given that the ACSSSA races under the IHRA rules umbrella I thought we needed to further spread the word on the unique to IHRA Pure Stock Class. As quoted from the IHRA rule book "These classes are for street type cars which have minor modifications to the engine, chassis, transmission, carburetor, etc. unless it is specifiically stated that a modification or optional equipment is permitted. no turbo or super charged cars allowed. A through I are the only available classes, with the same weight breaks as stock. Class weight breaks for for both sticks and automatics." Here is a link to the IHRA rules for Pure Stock www.mydigitalpublication.com/publication/?i=96979&p=56Some highlights of the rules * Battery - must be in stock location * Carburetion - must be OEM complete for year * Engine - must be same year and make for car used. * Exhaust - Stock OEM exhaust manifold mandatory with open exhaust. Headers permitted with OEM type mufflers * Fan, Generator, Water Pump - Must be connected and operational at all times. Water pump must remain stock, electric fan may be added * Hood - Full stock hood and bracing must be retained. * Interior - Must be complete as delivered from factory * Tires - Any DOT tire permitted with full tread pattern. Slicks may be 9 x 30 x 15 maximum sidewall designation * Weight Adjustment - Same as Stock Eliminator This class seems like a natural fit for some of the Sportsman cars in Atlantic Canada. 5.0 Mustangs, LT1 and LS1 Camaros and Firebirds are all natural cars to fit the class. Restored muscle cars can also fit. Should you have any questions on the class or whether it is a fit for your car you can * Post it here and we can try to help with classification etc. * Email myself at mhowes@globalconvention.ca or Jeff Kempton at jeffkempton@hotmail.com

Those Camaros and Firebirds don't have to be V8 powered. Check out this video I found on YouTube:
Where can you find the factors for pure stock?

You use the same factors as Stock Eliminator. However there are a few different HP factors listed on the IHRA site. For example the 93-97 Camaro and Firebirds actually use a lower HP factor for pure stock. It's tricky to follow IHRA's amendments and hp corrections on their site, but they are there.
Lets use a 71 nova 270HP 350 as example
NHRA Factored to 278HP with auto trans
11.36 Weight break
IHRA D/PS 11-11.99 weight break
11x278=3058 + 170 for driver = 3228 pounds
13.10 index.
Or if you can't get your car that light with all the street trim which is required, you could run E/PS at 3506 pounds with a 13.40 index.
You follow all the same engine blueprint specs as stock, but your camshaft and valvetrain must be oem spec, (lift, duration, overlap etc and valve spring pressure) like stock eliminator used to be.
Hope this helps!

Hey guys, I'll bite.. What, if anything can be done to have a 7.5 chev hold up to a LS1/t56 on a hard launch? I've got a cover with cap pre load and moser hardened axles with a Torsen posi and a new gear set. If I could reasonably assure the rear/axles was going to survive, I'd give it a go. As the car is a cruiser, I'm not going to start cutting it up to make a lighter weight. So it would be over the C/PS weight with ease. It's a 2000 Camaro SS.
I've already destroyed an axle and carrier on launch with drag radials on a 4k launch..
