ATLANTIC PRO TREE 2012 TOUR

Subject: Meeting Minutes from 21-January-2012
Overview:
Over the last several years, there has been a substantial increase in the number of race cars being built and/or purchased which can and in many cases do, compete in IHRA/NHRA index class races. However the majority of these cars are not utilized as Pro Tree cars for a number of reasons (travel costs/time off requirements/driver-car certifications, etc.). There have been many informal discussions amongst racers at each of the race tracks through out the Maritimes over the last couple of seasons about the possibility of staging a Pro Tree race. For 2012, based on the feed back from a large number of racers, the there is a high level of interest and commitment to stage a series of races at each of the tracks in Atlantic Canada.
The following is a summary of the meeting held at the St. Hubert Restaurant 235 Carson St., Moncton, NB on 21-January-2012 from approximately 11:00am to 2:30pm.
Meeting organized by Bernie Corscadden, with the assistance of Don Lavoie and Don Phillips to determine the level of interest in having a Pro Tree Series (0.500 light with three (3) index classes: 8.90, 9.90 and 10.90).
Registration form was passed around, requesting name, car no. and class, and contact information (phone, mailing, emailing). 33 racers attended the meeting
A sheet was passed around with 7 proposed logos and series names, with racers requested to review and provide feedback later.
At the meeting, Bernie went over the proposed agenda to solicit feed back and decisions by the racers attending.
Name of series: decision (based on a majority consensus) was the Atlantic Pro Tree 2012 Tour). Decals will be made an distributed to members.
A secretary-treasurer was elected: Mike Sargent was nominated by Bernie Corscadden. Majority of attendees voted in favour.
Provincial representatives: the following individuals were nominated and voted in:
Bruce Howatt PEI Representative
Kevin Lively Nova Scotia Representative
Chris O’Neill New Brunswick Representative
Mike Wilson Cape Breton
Tentative schedule with proposed dates for four (4) races (races would be conducted on Saturday in conjunction with Gambler’s races_:

July 20th/22nd Sydney, NS (ADRA Event)
August 11th/12th PEI (Regular Event)
September 29th/30th Miramichi (ADRA Event)

8.90 sec Quick Rod (IHRA) / Super Comp (NHRA)
9.90 sec Super Rod (IHRA) / Super Gas (NHRA)
10.90 sec Hot Rod (IHRA) / Super Street (NHRA)
While it is the intent of the series to try and follow the IHRA / NHRA rules, as far as vehicle type (dragster/door car) body style (dragster/center steer altered/roadster), and vehicle weights, a number of concessions were required to keep things simple and promote the series. See Addendum regarding the following concerns:

Moving from class to class
Car counts
Points/Payouts/Overall Series Winner (season). See Addendum regarding the following:

All races to be run in ¼ mile format, with the exception possibly of PEI which may be 1/8 mile should there be stock car racing scheduled for that day. Majority of attendees were in agreement. As there is a difference between IHRA and NHRA indexes for 1/8 races, a decision will need to be made at the next meeting
