A couple questions for those in the know...LOL....I started to get my 468 BBF ready for a test fit in the Mustang. I picked up the new front plate and Hooker swap headers last week. The Comp Engineering front plate fits ok but the stock water pump backing plate clearance issue rear'd it's ugly head. What is the best option to run a stock water pump and not cut a hole in the engine plate on a BBF? If I did spend the $$$ for an electric water pump - which is the most reliable? CSR, Meizere or Moroso? I was going to buy a WP drive kit anyways so I'm thinking the electric water pump might save me some grief and weight. Also - I have the Ford racing swap pan kit for a Fox body, what model year should I buy a HV oil pump for? The current HV pump on the engine has a pressed in pick up and the swap pan pickup is a bolt on job.

HV oil pumps take HP away. From any of my experiences, a stock pump will do just fine.Last year I built an 800+ hp BBC with a stock oil pump, and have ZERO issues. As far as an electric WP, whatever is in the budget works, I have seen a SBF Moroso one thats quite old work very well, as well as the CSR version

I was under the impression that the BBF's had oiling issues to the rear. I've seen some BBF's with a hose running from the front oil gallery to the rear gallery for extra volume....A stock pump is ok with me if that's all I need. That's all I've ever used in the past on my engines. I ordered a PRW electric pump this morning to fix my plate issues. It wasn't a whole lot more money than modding the plate and a water pump drive kit. ...

www.460ford.com/forum/Check there, will be lots of info. Personally with the 3 inch main I would setup for .003-.004 clearance on mains, .0025 - .0035 on the rods. 10W30 oil and a hi vol pump. 20ish PSI hot idle, 80 thru the traps, perfect

Mario is right on with his suggestions. If your running a solid roller cam you might also want to add lifter bore bushings to turn it into a priority main oiling system. I used this kit on my 351C. www.lifterboretools.com

Geez, Hard to believe that lump fits in there so well Stu. Looks like it's far enough back to provide (some) weight transfer. It's looking like a pretty neat project.

I was suprised it fit in so easy, putting the 351W in the Merc was a much larger fight. We have lots of weight, getting it to the back tires is another story...LOL....The oil pan is about 3/8" above the steering rack and the driveshaft angles are excellent.
