First off big congrats to John MacKinnon for the S/P win. Good friend who has really been struggling the last few years. Well the grin on his face yesterday was priceless and his faith in the Cutlass restored. The new 540 short block really woke that car up. Cutting good lights against everybody slow and fast. Great job John, couldn't be happier to see you win.
Got to give kudo's to the MDP staff on running a great race. Bit of a late start to let everything dry out and a major finish line oildown to cleanup. Ray Bourque and I were the last pair to race at about 7:30, very well done with a good sized field of cars. Terry has a great staff this year, I have not made a pass at MDP since 2007 so they were all new to me but I got treated great and everything was run in a very professional friendly manner. A lot of racers got their faith restored in MDP, keep up the good work folks.
Congrats to a bunch of people for doing well.
Jason MacNeil definitely got his programs back together after a slow start this year with a runner up in S/P.
Billy Shepard for the win and Mike Stone for the runner up in Pro. Man Mike is really wearing out the Pro field this year, seems like either a win or runner up every time he goes racing. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy Mike, good on you.
Richard Leger for the win is Street, long time racer still getting it done.
Dawson Toombs in Junior, coming up big with a couple of wins this year, the old man's competitiveness showing up in the young racer. Must be nice to able to be so relaxed. Just before the final Brian was all over the pits looking for Dawson. He was in Mark Green's motorhome watching videos with Jensen, came out wondering what all the fuss was about. ;D ;D ;D
Bluff of the weekend, I hope Ray Bourque plays some poker because he has a heck of a poker face. ;D ;D ;D He lost in the semifinals of S/P running right in front of me. I was concentrating on my burnout and staging, did notice he lost but nothing more. Turns out he broke 2nd gear in the tranny on that pass. I never noticed and no one told me the difference. Well he certainly never said a word!!! I was on my way to see John MacKinnon after losing to him in the semi's and yelling something about "its my turn" to Ray on the way by since we had to run for 3rd place, he yelled something back to the effect of " in your dreams!!!" ;D ;D ;D So off to the staging lanes where I told him he was in the left lane since I had lane choice, he had been running the right all day like me but figured he could get it done in the right with his trademark smile and a laugh. Running Ray is always fun. ;D ;D ;D He's dialing the car like he is going hard and we go to the line. I missed the light a bit but never look over until I am settled down in high gear. Get settled, look over expecting to see a lot of Camaro right beside me (only .02 difference in dials), double take, no Ray, I look back, still no Ray, now I am really confused. WTF is going on here, finish line is coming a ton and I am still trying to figure out what is going on. Fortunately my presence of mind does not totally desert me this time and I park it at the first MPH stripe. I turn the corner at the end of the track and here is Ray taking a Sunday drive down track. Timeslip tells me something went badly astray for Ray but still have no idea. I get back to the pits and someone finally tells me what is going on. ;D ;D ;D Shortly I see Ray coming up pit row laughing his butt off. He was hoping for a redlight, jokes on him there, he has obviously not seen my lights this years, not much chance of a redlight. Still don't get the booing from Rhea Bourque though. ;D ;D ;D ;D The people in this sport make it a joy to go to the track. I love every minute of it win or lose.
Some thanks to a few people, Mark Green blew up his 440 a couple weeks ago and is not back together yet so he offered me his pitspot. Thanks Mark and thanks to the whole Green family for the great hospitality. I have been treated almost like one of the family for some years now and just wanted to say I very much appreciate it.
Thanks to my better half Gale Morgan, has transformed the living quarters in my trailer and the quality of the food in my pitspot has improved by a factor of 10 or more. ;D ;D ;D Came back from finishing 3rd yesterday and got to sit down to a great steak dinner before we hit the road for home.
Yes I finished 3rd, had a great day. Wish I could say I did it all myself but it was a "better to be lucky than good" day. ;D ;D ;D 3 redlights and a missed light in the other lane on the way to the semi's where I went .001 further under against John MacKinnon. Losing to the winner again, let me think, yep it still sucks. My good luck continued when I won the ADRA draw for the compressor and for all you naysayers it had nothing to do with Gale selling me the ticket. ;D ;D ;D
Some other notes
Sympathy to Brian Mansfield, made it to the quarterfinals but could not run with a broken rearend. Going 3 rounds against a tough field and then breaking just sucks. Beautiful car working well and going some rounds.
Congrats to Robert Hogan on going some rounds, followed his back half job on his car over the winter. Did a real nice job on the car but was finding it tough moving up to S/P. Don't know how old Robert is but he looked awful young standing around with the rest of the drivers at 8 cars. ;D ;D
Good to see some young guys jumping into the field.
Bruce Howatt kicking the tree over with the footbrake car in S/P, heard a .502 and a .504. Said to someone we should force him to go to a delay box to make it fair for the rest of us. ;D ;D ;D
That's it for now, hope to see lots of racers here at Raceway Park this weekend. Remember the Team race deadline is coming up and you know which team you need to be on!!!!!!!!!!
Opps forgot to mention how well rested Peter Hobart looked, well at least he is fair and sleeps in at all the tracks. ;D ;D No pressure for track prep duties to get him up must have made him sleep better. Going to be a long time my friend before it is over.
