Lotsa to cover tonight, so I'll start at the beginning. LoL
The first topic, the low ET/high MPH dudes were shakin' the stands in Miramichi on Saturday. Sources tell me, congrats are in order for Gordon "Boo" King. To start the day (Saturday) Boo laid down run in the 7.30's and then later in the day, King clicked the Miramichi timers (with the chutes out early) at 6.91@ 180+ MPH. Great stuff and it's nice to see these guys really getting back in the grove once again.
In other news from Miramichi Dragway, Rudy Savoies Vette clicked off several 7.70's and they also worked on sorting out that wild new Willy's. No et's to report on the Willy's but they worked on some launch issues and did see some mph numbers in the 187 range. That will be another maritime missile for sure.
Next topic, every now and then we hear about younger children who can think (and act) almost like an adult. Well in our midst, is an 11 year old who knows much more about this sport than many adults. Earlier this year he and I discussed adding the camera to his junior dragster, and I was able to make good on the deal on July 17th. So tonight, it's time to salute my buddy Rylie Green. You might as well get familiar with Rylie, cause he's the guy that can potentially re-write the record books for some time to come. Chat with this guy sometime, he lives for every digit on the time slip. Check out this You-Tube video from Rylie's dragster.
Our third topic tonight, is Raceway Park. What can you say about a dragstrip that has survived 40 years in Atlantic Canada? The place just attracts racers and spectators from all over. There has been lotsa tracks come and go since Raceway Park arrived, and with it's core of volunteers, things just keep chuggin' along. Great stuff.
To Mark the events of the weekend, Mark MacDonald (Horsepower Photo) has shared some images to use as a momento of the occasion.
Before we sign off tonight, I've got to mention that Cape Breton Dragway will be hosting another round of Thunder in the Highlands, motorcycle drag racing. The track will be race ready by noon and judging by the fun factor from last year, there should be a crowd in town to flex their muscles. If you need more details on Thunder in the Highlands, check out their web-site.
