Well here we are with our 714th edition on MNP's and special thanks again to Chris O'Neill, for covering the action at Miramichi Dragway once again. Chris has supplied us with a great selection of photos and info from Saturday in the Chi.
First up, is a huge congratulations to my good buddie Don Lavoie as he celebrates 50 years of drag racing and just expanded with the addition of two junior dragsters to the camp. These are two of Don's grand-kids, his daughter Lisa's children. Don has 6 grand-kids to keep him busy. Driving today was Yakim Goguen, age 10 and his best time was 15.10 at 42 mph, while the other dragster is driven by Marika Goguen and she went 12.17 at 52 Mph. You will also soon see that Don has added some color his Vette to match all three up for the 2019 season. Great things happen with great people . . . there's proof.
Moving along, it was round 1 of the new Top Sportsman/Top Dragster series and with 16 entries it was David Anthony from Mount Pearl, Newfoundland with the win over Doug Wrathall to get the new series rolling. Sydney Nova Scotia based, Doug Wrathall was #1 qualifier as well with a 6.99 at 201 mph.
Next up is Brett Ramsay and the debut of the new dragster. After a couple of shakedown passes, he ran it out to an 8.01 at 167 mph. This was the 434 sbc out of the team Ramsay Camaro. Chad and Brett were expecting 8.30s out of this combo, so needless to say they were very happy. Second full pass, car repeated the 8.01. First round, Brett dialed it to an 8.02, and ran dead on for the win. Unfortunately after that the carburetor was giving them some troubles. A very good first outing for the dragster though, looks as though it will be as consistent as Brett, a deadly combination we're thinking.
Also, Jean Gosselin showed up with a newly built Hayabusa. He made some real nice low 9 second passes. That ride seemed pretty consistent too, the bike ran dead on the 9.11 dial one round, and a 9.12 on the 9.11 next round on the way to a semi final finish in the Box class. Gosselin also had his 8 year old son Édouard there learning the ropes at the dragstrip on his dirtbike.
Also this weekend, the Gosselin team also added a junior dragster to the program when Jean Gosselins nephew, Felix Gosselin enjoyed his first time to our track as well. I love the helmet.
Can't say enough about the job Chris O'Neill has handed over to us the last two weekends. Thanks so much.
Play safe and have a fun week.
