STOCK/SUPER STOCK CHALLENGE RACE #2, Presented By Kevin Lively Jr. Transportation Services of Lr. Sackville, NS
On July 3rd, Race #2 of the 2010 Stock/Super Stock Challenge Series was held at historic Raceway Park in PEI; and like our first race, it also enjoyed great weather and was a big success. With several local racers away competing at the NHRA divisional race in Lebanon Valley, New York, and others who couldn't make it due to parts breakage gremlins or other issues, our field was a little smaller than Race #1. The competition among our eleven participants was no less fierce though!
I couldn't get to the track until Saturday morning, and Mark Howes took charge of the Registration and Tech procedures in the interim. He had everything done by the time I arrived (Thanks Mark!), so I concentrated mainly on ensuring that Jeff Rhodenizer and Earle Proude in the tower were provided with any needed information, and did whatever else was needed to help things go smoothly.
With three of the racers in the top five in points not in attendance, it was a great opportunity for others to climb in the standings by the end of the day. The fact that Jody Noble was present after missing the 1st race added another curve, and he was running strong and looking to make up for lost time. Mike Ervin also jumped into the fray to see how his S-10 would fare in SS/TB, and with luck he'll make permanent a few temporary changes to his truck and become a regular participant.
Jody sent a message to the rest of the field right out of the box; rowing the Jerico in his '65 Malibu SS to the #1 spot at -1.040 after the first session. Second was Malcolm London in his newer Malibu with a strong -1.023 pass. Both improved further on these times in the 2nd session, but Malcolm found a little more and grabbed the top spot from Jody, along with the $100 Low Qualifier money from A&J Automotive. This turned out to be the start of an all day sparring match between these two; for not only would they butt heads again in the final round, but they would also post the two tightest numbers in the chase for the "Best Package" award!

STOCK/SUPER STOCK CHALLENGE RACE #2 WINNER - JODY NOBLE !!!
With our payouts tied to the size of the field; and this field smaller than race #1, the winner's cheque was expected to be less than the first race. However, once Event Sponsor Kevin Lively Jr. heard this, he made an additional contribution that topped up the Winner's Purse to $500. Thanks Kevin!

Once again a big thanks is due to all the racers, track personnel, fans, and sponsors that helped to make Race 2 a success. Thank You All!
With all the fun that we've been having it's a shame that we have the next two months off before we wrap it up at our 3rd race on Sept. 25th. The final race is being sponsored by Chipper's Auto Services & Performance, and is back at Greenfield Dragway. With several cars now in the final stages of completion and others that should be back together by then, we anticipate that this race will have our biggest field yet. Hope to see you there!
