STOCK/SUPER STOCK CHALLENGE RACE #2; Raceway Park, PEI
Presented By Kevin Lively Jr. Transportation Services, Lower Sackville, NS
RACE REPORT
Race 2 of the 2011 ACSSA Stock/Super Stock Challenge series is now in the books, and what a race it was! After overcoming some rain to successfully complete Race 1, our second race was blessed with warm, dry skies, and the event went off like clockwork. This race offered a fresh set of challenges for our racers; as it is the only race in our series that is run as an 1/8th mile event. Overcoming a lack of data for the shorter venue proved to be only a minor challenge, and our entries treated spectators and fellow racers alike to some great action on the track.
Despite the fact that five of our regular racers were away racing in the NHRA Points Meet at Lebanon Valley, New York, and several others were unable to attend due to mechanical or other issues, a strong field of 13 racers showed up to take part. Humidity and strong sunshine isn't the best for low ETs, but everyone still ran well in the first round of qualifying, and several improved further in Q2. With a 1st Round Bye for the #1 Qualifier, Chris Howes turned up the wick on his big Hemi, and when the dust cleared the top spot was his.

Heading into the 1st Round, the "Bounty Hunter" bulls eye was on the back of Race 1 winner Greg Nickerson, and four racers intended to do their best to pocket that extra $50 and earn the bragging rights that went with it. The rounds played out as follows:
ROUND 1:
Jeremy Keans .1007 RT, 7.2442 (7.19) defeated Don LaVoie .1540 RT, 7.2769 (7.19)
Trevor Ervin .1779 RT, 6.7600 (6.69) defeated Alan Harper .0761 RT, 7.4717 (7.25)
Greg Nickerson .0188 RT, 6.7950 (6.75) defeated Ray Ingram .0529 RT, 7.2930 (7.28)
Jack Keirstead .0009 RT, 7.3640 (7.34) defeated Terry Knapper .0519 RT, 7.3722 (7.38)
Malcolm London .0609 RT, 7.6231 (7.61) defeated Jody Noble -.1229 Red, 10.7877 (7.39)
Mark Howes .1018 RT, 6.6113 (6.60) defeated Dave Garland .2020 RT, 6.5648 (6.60)
Chris Howes .0121 RT, 6.4918 (6.48) defeated - BYE
Greg Nickerson picked the pocket of the first Bounty Hunter; Ray Ingram, in a close race that featured a Margin of Victory of just .0021 seconds, proving that he was going to make it hard for anyone to claim that money. Jack Keirstead forced Terry Knapper into a breakout run by strapping a .0009 light on him. The fans were getting their money's worth!
ROUND 2:
Jeremy Keans .0119 RT, 7.2412 (7.19) defeated Jack Keirstead .0689 RT, 7.3780 (7.35)
Greg Nickerson .0361 RT, 6.8029 (6.77) defeated Mark Howes .1658 RT, 6.6220 (6.62)
Trevor Ervin .1381 RT, 6.7859 (6.75) defeated Chris Howes .1151 RT, 6.4977 (6.50)
Malcolm London .0541 RT, 7.5838 (7.61) defeated - BYE
Greg Nickerson avoided falling to the second Bounty Hunter when Mark Howes ran just .002 off his dial but was second off the line, giving the advantage and the win light to Greg. Jeremy Keans put together another good package to end Jack Keirstead's day, and Trevor Ervin got the win when Chris Howes broke out by just .0023, which put the last of the Mopars on the trailer. Malcolm London got the bye.
ROUND 3:
Greg Nickerson .1002RT, 6.7529 (6.77) defeated Trevor Ervin .0929 RT, 6.7720 (6.79)
Jeremy Keans .0071 RT, 7.2328 (7.23) defeated Malcolm London .0368 RT, 7.5923 (7.60)
Greg Nickerson dodged his third Bounty Hunter bullet; this time by just .0009, when he broke out by the lesser amount against Trevor Ervin. Jeremy Keans put together the Best Package of the weekend, and earned his way into the Final by pushing Malcolm London into a breakout.
FINAL ROUND:
Greg Nickerson .0509 RT, 6.7711 (6.76) defeated Jeremy Keans -.0042 RT, 14.3072 (7.22)
With a close red light by Jeremy Keans, Greg Nickerson became the first repeat winner in the history of our series, and remains undefeated so far in 2011. He also padded his winnings by turning back all the Bounty Hunters and pocketing the extra $50 for himself. Congratulations Greg!
